The Portland Trail Blazers are 4-2 on the season after enjoying a 2-1 week that included a pair of wins over the Sacramento Kings and a loss to the Houston Rockets.
Here's how the Portland Trail Blazers stack up in the various NBA power rankings following week two of the 2013-14 season. In last week's week one rankings, the Blazers ranged from No. 6 to No. 14. This week, Portland is ranked between No. 7 and No. 12, rising on just about every set of Power Rankings.
No. 12 (Last week: 13): Marc Stein, ESPN.com
Portland's star tandem had already made (franchise) history. According to our trusty friends at Elias, Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge are the first pair of Blazers to average better than 23 points per game through the season' first five games -- until Lillard's 1-for-15 shooting in Sacramento.
No. 11 (Last week: 13): Marc Spears, Yahoo! Sports
Portland is off to strong start, but two wins were against Sacramento. If the Blazers are legit, they should win at least three of their next five games with Detroit, Phoenix, Boston, Toronto and Brooklyn.
No. 10 (Last week: 12): Matt Dollinger, SI.com
Only three players are averaging 20 points, five rebounds and five assists per game right now: LeBron James, Kevin Love and Damian Lillard. And to further prove the second-year guard's versatility, Lillard is also leading his team in three-pointers and free throws made. There aren't many point guards around whom you'd rather build than Lillard.
No. 7 (Last week: 6): Matt Moore, CBSSports.com
The rare team that looks almost exactly like what we expected it to be. They're good, but not able to really take on the big boys yet.
No. 9 (Last week: 11): Kurt Helin, Pro Basketball Talk
They are putting up this nice early record despite a defense 25th in the NBA in points per possession (and some shooting struggles for Damian Lillard). Robin Lopez was supposed to improve Portland's interior defense but there are communication issues in the system.
No. 9 (Last week: 11): John Schuhmann, NBA.com
The bad news is that Damian Lillard's field goal percentage has gone down every game this season. The good news is that the Blazers' other shooters (Wesley Matthews in particular) have picked up the slack and that Lillard will have a hard time shooting worse than 1-for-15 against the Pistons on Monday. How in the world do you shoot 6-for-26 in two games against the Kings' defense, anyway?
No. 11 (Last week: 12): David Aldridge, NBA.com
Wes Matthews picking up the scoring slack with Damian Lillard (26 of 84 his last five games, 30.9 percent) and Mo Williams (37 percent from the floor so far this season) struggling.
No. 10 (Last week: 14): Jason Patt, SB Nation
A good way to get well is to play the Sacramento Kings twice in a row. The Blazers swept a home-and-home against the Kings, winning both games by double digits. And even more good news, LaMarcus Aldridge is happy!
No. 9 (Last week: 10): USA Today Sports
Robin Lopez lives in twin Brook's shadow, but his team is towering over the Nets right now.
