Blazers G Wesley Matthews Is Day-To-Day After Electrical Procedure To Address Irregular Heartbeat

The Portland Trail Blazers announced Wednesday that guard Wesley Matthews is listed as day-to-day after undergoing an electrical procedure to address an irregular heartbeat. Matthews start experiencing symptoms during Wednesday's practice.

Portland guard Wesley Matthews experienced an irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation) today during practice.

Matthews underwent an electrical cardioversion procedure this afternoon and his heartbeat has returned to normal.

He did not travel with the team to Oakland and is out for tomorrow night's preseason game at Golden State and is listed day-to-day.

Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com reported on Twitter earlier Wednesday that Matthews did not travel with his team to California for Thursday's preseason finale against the Golden State Warriors.

Erik Gundersen of The Columbian reported that Matthews left practice early on Wednesday.

The other thing that ended earlier than expected was Wesley Matthews' participation in practice as Terry Stotts said that he left halfway through practice because he wasn't feeling well. Stotts said that Matthews went to go see the doctor and he was unsure whether Matthews would make the trip with the team to the Bay Area.

In five preseason games, Matthews averaged 6.8 points and 3.8 rebounds and shot 26.5 percent from the field.

Blazers guard Will Barton started in place of Matthews during a 94-84 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers last Friday.

Blazers rookie guard Allen Crabbe just returned to the team this week after missing time due to an illness.

Blazers All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge will play on Thursday after missing time with a sore knee.

Aldridge missed time during training camp in 2011 after undergoing a procedure to address the electrical system in his heart.

The Blazers open their regular season schedule against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 30.
