Stein: Jay Triano To Join Blazers As Assistant Coach?

Marc Stein of reports on Twitter that former Toronto Raptors coach Jay Triano could join the staff of new Portland Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts as an assistant. ------------------------------ Morsel from coaching grapevine: Hearing Jay Triano will wind up on Terry Stotts' bench in Portland after ex-[Raptors head coach] was also chased by [Dallas Mavericks]. ------------------------------ The Raptors moved Triano into a scouting role in 2011, after he posted a record of 87-142 in 2+ seasons. He was replaced by Stotts' fellow former Dallas Mavericks assistant coach, Dwane Casey. Triano, 53, has also served as head coach of Canada's national basketball team. Stein further reports on Twitter that he could be headed back to that bench as well. Stotts' staff currently includes Portland's former interim coach Kaleb Canales, who will return to an assistant's job in 2012-13. Stotts hasn't placed a timeline on filling out his staff but said last week at a press conference that contact with candidates has begun. -- Ben Golliver | | Twitter
