Damian Lillard Works Out For Blazers: Round-Up

New, comments

Weber State point guard Damian Lillard conducted an individual workout for the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday morning.

Here's a round-up of the coverage.

Dwight Jaynes of writes...

My guess, after Damian Lillard's solo workout Friday in Portland, is that the Trail Blazers will select Lillard with that sixth choice.

The gym had a noticeable upbeat vibe after his workout. Word was, the kid barely missed a shot through the entire session. He's strong, he's quick and he can really score. Also, it's said he's a pretty nice young man.

Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune reports...

Owner Paul Allen, interim head coach Kaleb Canales and all members of the Portland front office dined with Lillard Thursday night.

"They were great," Lillard said. "It was smooth. Everything went along pretty easy. Great conversation. I didn't feel like I was trying to please anybody or they were trying to please me.

"It was just a good time. We had dinner, talked about myself growing up, things like that. Just getting to know each other."

Joe Freeman of The Oregonian reports...

By all accounts, Lillard dazzled in his individual predraft workout Friday at the Blazers' practice facility in Tualatin. With owner Paul Allen watching from the sideline, the Blazers ran the Weber State product through a series of full-court and half-court dribbling exercises, evaluated him extensively in pick-and-roll situations, threw a variety of defensive looks his way in drills and then watched him shoot.

Freeman adds these notes on Twitter...

Blazers owner Paul Allen is in town for Lillard's workout. Allen had dinner with Lillard/front office last night and watched workout today.

Lillard on chances he lands with Blazers: "I could see it happening. And I hope so. I think I really fit in here."

Damian Lillard said he has worked out for Toronto, Sacramento and the #Blazers. Has plans for two more at Houston and Golden State. Lillard said four other NBA teams visited Oakland, where he is from and where he is prepping for draft, and evaluated him there.

Sean Meagher of has video of his post-workout interview...

The Blazers posted these notes and quotes from Lillard on Twitter...

Lillard compares his game right now to Indiana's George Hill

Lillard: "I'm a team-first guy... I'm going to being toughness. I'm a competitor and I've got an ability to make shots...Right now I just want to get on a team and earn my stripes, work my way onto the floor...

Lillard: "I can see it happening (being drafted by Portland). Hopefully it will work out... I think I'd fit in well in Portland...playing in the pick and roll with [LaMarcus Aldridge] would be fun."

Interim Coach Kaleb Canales: "I thought his [Lillard's] conditioning really stood out."

Jay Allen of 750 AM The Game added these quotes on Twitter...

Lillard: "I'm going to compete every night out. You won't have to worry about me checking out when things get bad. I'm a team first guy... "If I'm on the bench my 1st year, I'm still going to cheer the team on. You won't see me in the news. I don't do a lot. I don't go out & get into trouble...I won't be any problem for the organization; it'll just be up and up.

Mike Tokito of The Oregonian reported on Twitter...

Damian Lillard handled himself very well in media session after solo workout w/#Blazers. Straight answers, no BS.
