Report from the Big Apple

Report from the Big Apple Or How to Ruin a Great Vacation
So after two days of walking endlessly through the streets of NYC and marveling at the great sights - it was finally time to get our Blazer gear out and summon the disconsolent fandom. I was hoping the team would wake up out of their funk and remember that they have great fans - fans like my son and I who travelled 3,000 miles, spent a small fortune on planes, trains, hotels and tickets to cheer their efforts (?). So we stopped by a great Irish pub near the Garden, met some fellow Blazer fans and made our way over to Madison Square Garden in time to walk around and try to soak up some of the history. The game was pretty much decided when the Blazers put their jock straps on before tip-off. Since some of the Bedger's may want to hear what the experience was like, here are my thoughts/impressions. 1) Knicks fans were expecting to lose and could not believe their good fortune in seeing the kind of team we have become. They got giddy and it did not take them long to forget that they had lost 6 straight before the Felton pixie dust gave them their wish. 2) what is the big deal about the MSG? It kinda sucked and could not hold a candle to the Rose Garden. 3) we did not have any trouble with the fans. The lady behind me kept bopping me on the head every time we missed a shot which must have been every time we tried a shot. Actually they were apologetic to us that we were so bad. They seemed to always comment on everything and yelled alot. They don't seem to like Melo too much, cheers broke out whenever Lin scored. 4) I think JR Smith is kind of a punk. He strutted around like Ali knocking out Liston every time he hit a 3 which seemed to happen all the time. He did not have to be so darn "strutty" about it. 5) our lack of of fence made their average defense look incredible. Pretty soon they believed it. 6) J Lin just looked average. 7) Food/drink just as expensive and not nearly as good (?) as at the RG. 8) Knicks cheer girls not anywhere as cute as the Blazer Dancers. Really. 9) at the end of halftime intermission, I could not see Nate and began to wonder if he had got deep sixed at halftime. Then I saw him sitting on the bench - kinda by himself with a clipboard - drawing up plays. I thought " what kind of play can you draw up for a team with no heart?" sad for Nate as I don't think he is the one with a dead heart or has stopped trying - but you really could tell that he has lost the team and they are not hearing him. They had their heads down all night and their body language showed defeat from the beginning. 10) in spite of the humiliating loss, NY is a great town! People are friendly, good food, easy to get around, tolerant of tourists........ Lots of reasons to come back, just not again for these Blazers.
