Kennedy: McMillan Lost Locker Room, Faces Internal Questions?
On the heels of an embarrassing defeat to the Celtics in Boston, Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld.com writes that Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan is facing questions from inside his locker room and the organization. ------------------------------ Sources close to the situation believe that McMillan has lost the locker room. According to one source, there’s a growing number of players who would like to see McMillan fired, with assistant coach Bernie Bickerstaff taking over as interim head coach. Bickerstaff has coached the Seattle SuperSonics, Denver Nuggets, Washington Wizards and Charlotte Bobcats, accumulating 414 wins throughout his career. The players aren’t the only ones who are questioning McMillan. Sources within the organization have criticized the coach’s rotations and in-game adjustments. It’s always telling when a head coach has seemingly run out of answers, and that appears to be the case in Portland. One team source said that McMillan "has no idea what to do" as the Blazers slip further down the standings. ------------------------------ Mike Barrett of Blazers Broadcasting wrote this following Friday night's loss... ------------------------------ What was troubling, and what stayed with everyone long after the conclusion of this game, was that the Trail Blazers simply seemed to accept the beating. It’s not like they enjoyed the way it felt, but didn’t seem to have it in them to punch back. They do. That’s the disturbing part. ... There is plenty of blame to go around right now, as you know. I’ll just say this about Nate McMillan. He hasn’t suddenly forgotten how to coach. Is his message suddenly falling on deaf ears? Perhaps. But, unlike everyone else out there, I’m not predicting a coaching change anytime soon if things don’t dramatically change. It could happen, but I just don’t see it happening yet. ------------------------------ -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
