Daniel Eade of BackPageLead.com.au reports that former Portland Trail Blazers guard Jonny Flynn will sign to play with the Melbourne Tigers in Australia's National Basketball League.
The Melbourne Tigers will sign former NBA lottery pick Jonny Flynn as a replacement for the departing Kevin Braswell, a story first reported in this column nine days ago.
Flynn, 23, was expected to arrive in Australia last Thursday and the Tigers were hoping he would suit up on Sunday against the Crocodiles, but due to Hurricane Sandy Flynn was unable to get on a flight.
Flynn's contract with the Tigers will have an opt-out clause that will allow him to return to the NBA if he secures a new deal.
Flynn was invited to training camp with the Detroit Pistons this fall but didn't make the cut.
Flynn was the No. 6 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. Three point guards in his class -- Ty Lawson, Jrue Holiday and Stephen Curry -- signed four-year rookie extensions last week.
Former Blazers point guard Patty Mills played for the Melbourne Tigers before signing in China during the 2011 NBA lockout.
