Timberwolves Owner And Coach: We Don't Know If Brandon Roy Can Play

According to Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, he and coach Rick Adelman aren't sure whether former Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy can play.

In a MinnPost.com interview, Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor admits that he and coach Rick Adelman share reservations about whether guard Brandon Roy can return to form. Taylor says Minnesota's two-year deal with Roy was the work of GM David Kahn.

"Brandon Roy, you might think that is the coach, but that is more David. I think it is David saying, ‘Let give this player to Rick and get the backup in place in case it doesn't work out.' Because Rick keeps saying to me, ‘I don't know if he can play!' And I tell him, ‘Rick, I don't know if he can play either!' So the Brandon Roy thing is a risk."

Roy, 28, unofficially retired in December 2011 after the Portland Trail Blazers used the amnesty clause to release him because of ongoing knee problems. He has said he feels ready to go and is playing without limitations after undergoing treatment on his knees earlier this year.
