The Portland Trail Blazers announced the signing of unrestricted free agent guard Coby Karl to a training camp contract on Sunday night. His signing brings Portland's roster to 19 players.
Karl, 29, is the son of Denver Nuggets coach George Karl. He will wear No. 7. (Yes. Brandon Roy's No. 7.)
Listed at 6-foot-5 and 215, Karl played his college ball at Boise State. Last season, Karl played professionally in Italy's Serie A. Karl played for the Minnesota Timberwolves at the 2012 Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 21 minutes per game during four appearances.
Karl holds career averages of 2.4 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game over 24 total NBA appearances for the Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors. Karl last appeared in a game during the 2009-10 season.
The Blazers previously signed Demonte Harper, Dallas Lauderdale and Adam Morrison to their training camp roster.
Blazers guard Elliot Williams underwent season-ending Achilles surgery and Portland faces a decision on his future coming in to training camp, which begins on Tuesday.
