Smith: Blazers Assistant Bill Bayno To Join Timberwolves Staff

Brian T. Smith of the Salt Lake Tribune reports that Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach Bill Bayno is "expected to join" the assistant coaching staff being assembled by Rick Adelman in his new gig as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Jerry Zgoda of StarTribune.com has a similar report here. --------------------- According to league sources, Portland assistant coach Bill Bayno is expected to join a staff that also could include Jack Sikma, Adelman’s son R.J. and T.R. Dunn from Adelman’s Houston staff. --------------------- Bayno is a well-regarded player development specialist and has always been very popular with Blazers players. He's become a pre-game fixture as he works with oversized pads to help Portland players build up strength and get used to absorbing contact. Brought to Portland in 2005, Bayno left the Blazers staff to take the head coaching position at Loyola Marymount University in 2008, but returned in Jan. 2009 after he resigned that position for personal reasons. He was one of the few incumbent assistants to make the cut and stick around last summer when Blazers coach Nate McMillan shook up his staff. -- Ben Golliver | benjamin.golliver@gmail.com | Twitter
