Bonnell: Charlotte Bobcats Hire Rich Cho As GM
Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer reports that the Charlotte Bobcats have hired former Portland Trail Blazers GM Rich Cho to serve as their GM.
---------------------------------
In an exclusive interview Monday with the Observer, Cho and current general manager Rod Higgins confirmed Cho’s hiring. Higgins will be elevated to the title of President of Basketball Operations. Cho, 45, previously was general manager of the Portland Trail Blazers.
Cho is known for his eclectic background - he has been an engineer and a lawyer - and his experience in quantitative analysis. Higgins said those are strengths the Bobcats need.
"He has a unique set of skills that I don’t possess," Higgins told the Observer. "His analytical mind is a big plus for us. His legal background is a big plus for us."
---------------------------------
The report notes that Higgins began recruiting Cho "within a day of his firing."
Here's the Bobcats' official promotion announcement for Rod Higgins. Here's the team's announcement for Cho.
Cho was fired by the Blazers on May 23, three weeks ago.
The two teams were involved in pre-deadline negotiations that eventually saw Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace traded to the Blazers for center Joel Przybilla, forward Dante Cunningham, center Sean Marks and two draft picks.
Cho pretty much only wears black Jordan Brand jumpsuits so this should work out great.
