Simmons: Wesley Matthews Too Much To Give Up For Monta Ellis?

Rusty Simmons of the San Francisco Chronicle follows up on the Monta Ellis rumors with new Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson, who seems reluctant to part with Ellis. Simmons goes on to cite sources that question Ellis' trade value, mentioning a Portland Trail Blazers guard in the process. -------------------- "That is something we'll talk about all together," Jackson said in a side session after his introductory news conference. "I want Monta Ellis on this basketball team. With that being said, if they trade Monta Ellis for Dwight Howard or LeBron James, I'll be OK." The Warriors certainly aren't getting Howard or James in an Ellis swap, and some sources don't think the smallish guard can net even a player like Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala, Memphis' Rudy Gay or Portland's Wesley Matthews. -------------------- Matthews ($5.77 million) is on the books for just a little more than half of Ellis ($11 million). Obviously, those salaries don't match so this couldn't be a straight-up trade. For the sake of argument, though: Matthews or Ellis? -- Ben Golliver | | Twitter
