Sportando.net reports that Bennet Cantu of Italy's Serie A league is interested in signing Portland Trail Blazers guard Nolan Smith during the ongoing NBA lockout.
Bennet Cantù is interested in Nolan Smith. Former Duke guard has been selected by Portland Trail Blazers in 2011 NBA draft with the 21st overall pick. Smith wants the NBA out in the contract while Cantù would have the player, now free agent, at least for the season.
Bennet Cantù also tried to sign Jeremy Lin who is targeted also by Banca Tercas Teramo.
Cantu's roster includes former Redmond high and University of Oregon star Maarty Leunen.
Smith's fellow Blazers back-up point guard, Patty Mills, left the Melbourne Tigers of Australia's National Basketball League to sign with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association. Much like Red Bull, Xinjiang gives you wings.
There has been a flurry of signings and reported international interest in NBA players league-wide after the National Basketball Players Association disclaimed interest and filed multiple antitrust lawsuits last week, putting the rest of the 2011-2012 season into question.
