One day after formally announcing his two assistant GMs, Blazers General Manager Rich Cho continues to re-shape his new organization.
The Portland Trail Blazers have decided not to renew the contract of shooting coach John Townsend, according to a source with knowledge of the decision. Townsend spent the last three seasons with the organization after being hired by former General Manager Kevin Pritchard.
Townsend was informed of the decision this morning. A team spokesperson confirmed to Blazersedge this afternoon that Townsend is no longer with the organization, but declined to elaborate on reasons for the release.
Townsend's is the latest name added to the list of Blazers coaching staff turnover this offseason. Assistant Monty Williams was hired by the New Orleans Hornets to serve as their head coach, assistant Maurice Lucas retired and assistants Dean Demopolous and Joe Prunty were not retained. Yesterday, Demopolous was formally announced as part of the Los Angeles Clippers staff. Prunty has taken a position with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
