Blazers Summer League Roster Takes Shape

New, comments

With Las Vegas Summer League just a few weeks away, the Blazers have made some progress in filling out their roster.  Of course, last year's rookie duo of Dante Cunningham and Jeff Pendergraph will be back for their second year.  A report from the Racine Journal Times mentioned that Wisconsin swingman Joe Krabbenhoft, who played for the Blazers in Vegas last year, will be back again this year.  This morning, Mike Born confirmed that report and said the team have the following names penciled in as well.

  • Reyshawn Terry from the University of North Carolina, who played in Spain last year.
  • Ekene Ibekwe from the University of Maryland, who played for Nigeria during the 2006 FIBA World Championships and for the Toronto Raptors in Vegas last summer.
  • Mike Green from Butler University, who played for the Houston Rockets in Vegas last summer.

Born said he expects both Blazers draft picks to play on the team as well, meaning he expects to have 7 roster spots filled at this point.  The team will carry 11 or 12 players in Vegas and Born said he will look to fill the remaining spots with players participating in the Orlando Summer League, which runs the week before the Las Vegas Summer League.

The Blazers held pre-draft workouts this morning featuring Craig Brackins (Iowa State), Sherron Collins (Kansas), Marquez Haynes (UT-Arlington), Tommy Mason-Griffin (Oklahoma), Patrick Sullivan (SE Louisiana) and Ben Uzoh (Tulsa).

Brackins, a power forward from Iowa State, got rave reviews.  He fits a number of the criteria the team appears to be looking for: NBA readiness, very impressive size and strength, ability to shoot and high character, among others. I'll release this year's draft prospect board on Monday or Tuesday and Brackins will sit in poll position.

Collins, however, had the best tattoo: a guard executing a crossover with the words "CAUTION: Do. Not. Reach."

Blazers President Larry Miller, fresh off extending scouts Mike Born and Chad Buchanan, made his first appearance at the Practice Facility during the pre-draft season.

Also, our Mock Draft Table was updated today.
