BREAKING NEWS: Brandon Roy Has Torn Meniscus, Will Try to Play in Playoffs, Offseason Surgery Necessary

Less than an hour before game time, the Blazers sent out a text message to media stating...

MRI of Brandon Roys right knee reveals slight meniscus tear. Roy is out for final 2 regular season games. Day to day for playoffs.

Roy was made available to the Portland media at the Rose Garden shortly thereafter.  Here are some updates from that press availability from Ben Golliver of Blazersedge.com via Twitter.

  • Brandon Roy addresses reporters at Rose Garden. "Of course it's disappointing." Will test knee this weekend.
  • Will you play in playoffs? Roy: "I don't know right now... I want to play... If I do play I want to play at a level I can help."
  • Brandon Roy on his teammates: "It's hard to tell them I don't know when I'm going to play again." ... rest and ice is current treatment
  • Brandon Roy says, "I will have surgery, it's just a matter of when." Plans to have surgery during offseason.

  • Brandon Roy says recovery timeline after meniscus surgery is 4-6 weeks.

    • Summation for anyone who's reading quickly in panic:  Roy will need surgery.  The timing is in question.  He may be able to play in the playoffs but that's up in the air, depending on how the knee feels and how much he can contribute.
