Speaking of Greg Oden (a link to O-Live's report on his press conference is in the post below this one) reader Sean is making a bid to unseat DrDave as next year's Poet Laureate with this composition that he created for high school English class.  I'm sure all of you folks will appreciate it even more than the English teacher.

The Ballad of Gregory Oden

With a snap and a crack,
up off the couch went his knee.
All mangled and gnarled,
Oden's cartilage broke free.

With all their jaws dropped,
oh how loud the fans did scream.
The team's once mighty future,
was once again simply a dream.

It was way too familiar,
they had all seen it before.
The ghost of Sam Bowie
knocked again at the door.

The rumors they did swirl,
the conspiracies did rage,
but no one could explain
the news which graced the front page.

The pundits they howled,
"They got the damn pick all wrong."
And off to Seattle ,
Mr. Durant had already gone.

It was way too familiar,
they had all seen it before.
The ghost of Sam Bowie
knocked again at the door.

The plans changed overnight,
a season was all but dead.
In Nate's heart came the feelings
of darkness and even more dread.

No rest for the weary,
the offense he rearranged.
And all across the gym,
came the sounds of great change.

Steve worked on his shot,
Lamarcus drank protein shakes.
And even Mr. Miles,
forward progress he did make.

With Martell refocused,
and Pryzbilla back healthy,
with Raef's watchful guidance,
and Mr. Outlaw made wealthy,

With their heads held quite high,
on to the court they will storm.
Bringing hope to Portland ,
A city once so forlorn.

Even without dear Oden,
much praise will the Blazers earn.
Old Sam Bowie's ghost,
never again will return.

Nice work.  A Blazersedge "A" for sure.  Put THAT on your college app!
