Here are the results for Game 5 of the Jersey Contest. They are completely straightforward with nothing new to report so now seems a good time to cover the very last, and most obscure, rule of the contest...ties and the instant jersey.
You all know you win a jersey on the spot for a perfect score in any game. This has never happened but I have confidence one day it will. I get excited each time somebody comes close.
This brings up an interesting issue, however. Sometimes there is a statistical tie in the boxscore which leads to multiple answers to a question being right. For instance in this game Brandon Roy, Steve Blake, and Jarrett Jack all tied for most assists, which was Question #2. Because higher scores are more fun I have decided in these cases to score any of those answers as correct. Technically I could also score them all as incorrect, as nobody was the "highest". Alas that generosity cannot extend to the instant jersey proviso. I dread the day when through a fluke three or four questions end in ties, thus giving a ton of people 100% on the question part. If the score also ended up matching multiple people (and several people do duplicate score predictions each game) we could end up with three instant jersey winners in the same night. I know it's unlikely, but I plan to be doing this a long time and multitudes will enter, so it's not impossible. To avoid either hurt feelings on your part or bankruptcy on mine the rule has always been that ties for any question invalidate the instant jersey offer. You have to get a perfect score on a night where there was only one correct answer to each question in order to win it. Hope that makes sense.
