Pursuant to the post right below, I figured if there wasn't going to be an official tribute to/acknowledgement of Steve Jones upon his departure, we can at least do one at Blazersedge. Here's my shot...
I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the years you came into our homes and provided a link to this team that we love. Game after game, year after year, you were the voice that we turned to when we wanted to know what was going on with the Blazers. You helped us celebrate when things were going right. You helped us understand why things were going wrong. You shaped entire generations of Blazer fans with your wisdom, your insight, and your great sense of humor. It wasn't just what you said, it was how you said it that made the difference. As a fan, I always felt like you believed in us, trusted us enough to give your best...to explain things about the game and the league to people who might not know much, but had the desire and the capacity to learn. I felt like I learned so much from you, but I never felt dumb or pandered to in the process. They say that Blazer fans are some of the most knowledgeable in the business and there's absolutely no doubt in my mind that the lion's share of the credit for that goes to you. You gave us different eyes and you opened up a whole new perspective on the game. For that I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I can say with confidence that whatever I know about the team or the league has its roots in what you taught. Every time I sit down to watch a game I am indebted to you. I wish you were still with us on the air, but if that's not possible, know at least that many of us still hear your voice when we're sitting on the edge of our couches trying to figure out what's going on out there on the court. Your life's work made our life's passion so much better.
Thank you, and God bless.
