Born 'n raised a Blazer life. My older brother was conceived the night we became Champs. My mom even baby sat Paul Allen as a teenager, she was one of Faye Allen's favorite students and was thus awarded the opportunity. Paul was always asking her for lunch money--joke! But seriously, the story gets better. After seeing Ms. Allen on the jumbotron at halftime of a Blazers-Spurs game some ten odd years ago, my mom decided she would try to go down to say "Hello!" We encouraged her to stay put with the common-folk in the 300 level because: A. Don't go trying to holler at the owner's mother is common sense as we didn't want her getting kicked out of the game and then we'd have to miss the 2nd half. and B. There's no way she's going to recognize you after 35 years.

All of it was hogwash to my mom, who vanished despite our efforts and returned sometime towards the beginning of the third quarter with a huge smile on her face. Apparently she was able to get within earshot of the matriarch and upon hearing her name called, Ms. Allen turned and instantly recognized my mom. Apparently (to the dismay of a bodyguard) they hugged it out and Ms. Allen told my mom that she thinks about her every April 20th--my mom's birthday. Pretty special moment. My mom must have made a good impression back then, and likewise Ms. Allen on my mom as my mom has been a public school teach herself for over 30 years.

They even remained in touch thereafter, culminating in one of the coolest things to ever happen to our family--become the recipients of court side seats on a few occasions. Once my dad was asked to move back a couple of rows to accommodate one of Paul's guests, Robby Robertson. Don't get it twisted, besides getting to high-five our illustrious owner a couple times and getting to eat some of his spread in his luxury box, I was always too shy to approach the man...and he's understandably somewhat the same with his unknown guests. He's gotta be wary of moochers, I can't blame him. Thinking back on it, I should have asked for a job! I earned one though in high school as I hawked programs and merch at Blazer games and various concerts at the Rose Garden.

I'm glad to have been born in a one-sport city--a breeding ground of festering fanatics. I couldn't imagine having to split my devotion between sports as I only have enough time to be emotionally invested in my Blazers. The roller coaster ride that is the history of the Trailblazers has resembled my life--with the highs and lows often coming at similar times. So believe me, no one is happier than I about the current state of things.

I read everything I can get my hands on regarding this team and I'll write when motivated...which is a lot I guess. I've been loyal through the thick and thin because it's all I know. The team has a profound impact on the city. When the Blazers are going good, as goes life in Portland. Hopefully the world can soon take as much joy from this team as we do.

ESPN Rankings

I know everyone was jubilated by our over-ranking on USA Today (which had has ranked 5th in the league before next season).  ESPN released their rankings today and it arguably is more realistic, placing lower expectations on our group of youngsta's.

Count the MINUTES!

48 minutes in a basketball game x 5 players = 240 minutes of game time for our roster next season assuming of course the games end in regulation.  Based on our return players' numbers from last year and the predicted amount of necessary minutes for our stellar rooks, let's break down the minutes and see who's going to get shafted nest season.  For the sake of simple accounting, I'll be rounding all predicted minutes.

Team USA thoughts

Yes it was Canada.  Yes it didn't count for anything.  Still good to see our boys put one on Joel Anthony and rest of the mounties.  Hard to say which USA players were most impressive since they all were.
