Site note
Just a few site changes. I promised to update these to let you know what the latest is.
First, the blogroll that was at the bottom of the page has now been moved to the left sidebar for easier access to other SBN sites.
Second, there are new RSS links on the left sidebar for adding to Google Reader, etc.
And make sure to click Rec on an FanShot/Post that you like. If it gets enough recs, 5 I think, it will get bumped to the top as a recommended story. Maybe I should lower the count on that. You can also do the same thing for individual comments,
And finally, there's a slightly new SLCDunk logo. This one doesn't look like he's trying to make a layup.
He hasn't quite made the dunk, but maybe that represents the Jazz.
As always, thanks for reading and participating. Please don't hesitate to email me or leave comments about what you think of the site or if you have recommendations/questions.

Sometimes it takes 7000 miles to get your swagger back
Since the disastrous 2004 games in Athens, the value of gold worldwide has more than doubled. But for members of the USA Men's Basketball team, the gold they earned Sunday was priceless.
The 118-107 win will elicit calls of, "It was a lot closer than the score indicates." And it was. But Team USA never trailed after any quarter. And they held off a late Spanish charge in the fourth. I had to vomit afterward, but I was rooting for Kobe in the fourth.
So the gold around the American's necks puts the earth back in proper orbit, brought peace to the middle east, and reversed global warming. Order was restored.
According to my count, that's 6 gold medals for players while with the Jazz ( 2 each for Stockton and Malone and now 1 for Deron and Boozer). I believe that's the most for any NBA team. Granted, Boozer didn't see as much time as the other three, but a gold is still a gold.
If you didn't stay up to watch the game, I hope you DVRd it to watch it later. While a blowout would have been nice, it was the kind of game you want to have so long as your team wins.
Some other notes,
- Why were there so few American athletes putting their hand on their hearts during the National Anthem? And almost no one sang along. The only exception I saw to this was with the men's basketball team
- Looks like Deron and LeBron are best buds. Maybe this photo from last year's playoffs was actually predicting the future?
- Don't have to worry about Carlos Boozer getting overworked. Should be ready to go. Nor AK for that matter. Even Deron still looked fresh.
- Wins over Argentina and Spain gives some new fodder for taunts. "We got gold!" I'm sure that there are others that are more creative than that. But when Pau, Manu, or others are on the line, something like that would be great to hear.
- The Spaniards got away with a lot of shoves, etc. And Marc Gasol is a straight thug. I thought I had a screenshot, but when Wade takes the final shot at the end of the half, one of the Spanish players stepped under him. Wade had to be restrained a bit. And then when the game was in hand, lil Ricky started throwing a fit. And how many times did the Spanish bench have to be warned? They came onto the floor, threw towels on the floor, and never got a T.
- Does 4X400 star LaShawn Merritt look like Millsap?
- Now what are we going to do until training camp starts?

Still, Paul seemed to adjust more quickly to the NBA, making an immediate impact while Williams chafed under the tight reigns of Jazz coach Jerry Sloan.
"We were in a little different situation," Williams said. "He was pretty much handed the ball and allowed to play free. I was playing two-guard, one-guard. Sometimes I wouldn't play. Sometimes I'd play 30 minutes.
"We had different coaches. And one coach really doesn't like rookies."

Had it gone in, it would have been a six-point game at the half. A half in which the Americans had only two assists on 21 buckets and missed 10 of their 20 free throws and 10 of their 13 3-pointers while displaying virtually none of the ferocity that had carried them into the medal round on a wave of positive vibes.
But the shot missed, and Chris Bosh corralled the rebound and made a quick outlet pass to Williams, who already had turned upcourt.
"I looked up and saw I had time to get off a shot," Williams said. "When I caught it, it was about three seconds. I thought I could make it to the basket, a big man came up and I thought I could go by him and get to the basket, but he kept backing up, and I rose up for the 3."
What was striking about the 3 was the way Williams kept his cool and was able to get his feet set right at the base of the 3-point arc. The form was perfect, and the shot was, too.
"Usually a jump shot is better [than a runner]. That's the way you practice it," Williams said.
The sequence amounted to somewhat of a six-point swing in the final six seconds, and the Americans had a 55-43 lead going into the locker room.

Or why the U.S. fans are already starting a "Car-los Boo-zer, Car-los Boo-zer" chant, calling for the closest thing this team has to a walk-on.
USA 89-61 After Three - D.C. Sports Bog
While the Aussies are getting blown out, this is the chant that the US fans start. That's kind of sad.

Carlos Boozer & Powerade
While Deron is off doing commercials with LeBron and CP, Boozer needs to talk to his reps about his deal with Powerade. Here's a couple of snapshots from a display I saw (click for bigger),
The one on the left is from the 2004 Olympics. We see Amare on this one along with Booze wearing #7.
The second one has been discussed before. Gone are Carlos' tattoos. And has he ever had his hair like that? He looks more like a video game coverboy than a player.
Now this is likely Walmart's fault. It's always the low price, always. So they're using 4-year old displays. I don't even think Powerade sponsors the Olympics anymore. They're doing their cheapest to push a $.60 sports drink.
I'd be on the phone to my agent asap.
