Minute Crunch

There are a lot of people advocating that the Blazers stay with their current roster this coming season. I say that these people are taking crazy pills. We already have a ten man rotation (nine if you don’t count Sergio), and we have two guys coming in who should be getting starters minutes. Our playing time per game looked like this. How are we going to add Rudy and Greg without making some trades?

Blazerchart_medium

A minimum of 50 minutes has to be shaved off this chart in order to successfully play Oden and Rudy (not to mention our 13th pick). How exactly are you going to do that without making any trades? Realistically I think two or three people need to go. The question is who.

Martell said a couple really interesting things on the radio the other day. First he mentioned that Nate wants him to play some shooting guard and maybe a little point next year. Later while describing Rudy, Webster calls him a point guard. When the host tries to correct him, saying Rudy is a shooting guard, Martell sounds a little surprised and says something like, “I don’t know, I think Brandon has that position locked up”. Is that not a crazy statement?

1. How could Martell not know what position Rudy plays?

2. Why would Nate tell Webster he is going to get minutes at SG and  PG if Jack and Rudy will already be sharing playing time with Roy? Who needs four shooting guards?

3. Is Rudy our starting PG next year? I don’t care how many points Chris Paul scores, he will still be posted up like crazy on the other end.

4. Jack is basically gone right?

Russell Westbrook to the Clippers?

http://clipperblog.com makes a very convincing case in favor of the Clippers using their #6 pick on Mr.Westbrook. Among the other things he points out:

1.Wesbrook is basically a taller, more talented version of Rajon Rondo.

2. He has the uncanny ability of getting the ball to big men down low. That wouldn't came in handy would it?

3. He has a high basketball IQ.

4. He led the team in assists and "After the first of March, Westbrook collected three turnovers or greater in only one game".

I have heard a couple people state that they wouldn't take Westbrook even if he was available at the 13th spot. Let me ask you something. Are you on crazy pills? Who would you want to take instead, Batum? Get real.

What would we have to give up in order to obtain their #6 pick? I'm thinking Jack, our 13th pick, both second round picks and maybe a future first round pick. The Clippers want to rebuild and we are pretty much built.

Vote Brandon Jennings for PG in 2009

This season has been crazy. The thing about this team that continues to blow my mind is how much potential we have on our roster. If any of these guys ( Frye, Jack, Outlaw, or Webster ) left the team and had a huge season next year would anyone be surprised?

It’s not a stretch of the imagination to imagine Jack suddenly not turning the ball over so much next year, or Webster becoming a lockdown defender, or Outlaw accidentally killing someone by dunking too hard.

Given that we aren’t making a title run next year and considering we have such tremendous potential, wouldn’t it make sense to let it all ride and see what happens? We would be better off trading away our 13th pick and waiting to trade up in the draft in 2009 if things don’t work out. Most of our guys would have better trade value by then anyway.

Plus, Brandon Jennings will be in the draft next year. Holy cow, that kid has some talent.

Channing Frye is a extraordinary person of magnificent importance.

Maybe not , but he is certainly undervalued by most Blazer fans. These are some reasons he should get more respect.

  1. He is playing out of position.
  2. He has a great blog.
  3. He loves the city of Portland.
  4. He hates the city of Sacramento.(This illustrates his good judgment.)
If Oden had played this year I don't think we would be all giddy about trading Frye. Plus he has a sweet trick shot that we haven't seen in Portland yet.
