I think we just might make the playoffs, yes it's early in the season, but here is my reasoning; we are finally getting some calls! Roy is starting to get some of the "Wade calls" where he barrels down the lane and the ref's give him the benefit of the doubt. Dude looked like Magette out there barreling into the paint.
Also, Oden is getting calls that Joel doesn't get (by virtue of his size as well) and he can nail 'em at the stripe. The wolves announcers kept crying about 3 seconds on Oden, it was wonderful.

Roy is getting to the line and hitting them at a great clip, Oden is as well. Free throws decide playoff games.

Shawne Williams on the block?

I'd like to pick this guy up as a backup PF/C. He's a little mercurial, but I think we could handle it. He's also a banger and a good shotblocker.

What is with ( a few) people suddenly hatin' on Roy? Is this topic so silly that I should never even have to ask? Are they satirists? Do they know they are unfunny?

that sucks...

Well, at least we have Roger Mason...

Methinks this may be ugly for a little bit, however, the playoffs are a long ways away, plenty of time to get healed up and make a run. Doesn't look good for HCA though.

I've been hearing trade rumblings from various internet sources, though I don't believe that the Spurs would actually trade for Curry, I think that maybe R.C. and Pop will do something.

Wait! I have it! Pop's beard can play PG! Brilliant!

Question of the day:
"why do people keep calling Nate's substitutions 'questionable' when obviously he is winning us games?"

1.) Blazers were the best team after a time-out last year
2.) Blazers win total was quite a bit higher than our point differential suggested.
3.) Blazers were 2nd (i believe 2nd to the cavs) in come-from-behind wins.
4.) Nate was an Olympic coach and is very well thought of around the L.

Obviously, Nate knows a bit more than we do about basketball and can see the subtle differences in players from day to day. Can any of us really say but for Bayless (or Jack) being in the game instead of Sergio, we would have won?
Also, why do we keep saying that Nate is "slow to learn" things when in the process of coaching one of the youngest teams in the L he has to go over fundamentals so much that it's hard to throw new wrinkles in. Perhaps it's the players that are slow to grasp the nuance of what they are being asked to do and therefore why we don't see it employed in games. I'd rather see a predictable but perfectly executed p/r
than a scrambled and disjointed dribble drive offense.

Seriously, why all the hate for Nate?

Blazers VS Spurs predictions

OK guys, friday (tomorrow) is the first Blazers vs Spurs game of the season. Portland will be without Oden due to a mid-foot sprain that will have him out a couple weeks. Without further ado, here are my predictions for this game from a Portland perspective:

The two battles:

1.) LMA v Duncan. LaMarcus Aldridge gets up to play Duncan, I'd say 25+ points from LMA but only ~6 boards. Duncan will probably get 18-21 with 9 rebounds

2.) Roy vs Bowen. Roy can be bothered by Bowen and Udoka so I think we'll see Roy with about 16 pts (7 of which come in the 4th quarter) 5 assists, ~4 rebounds. As a caveat, Roy has never beaten the Spurs and very much wants to. It is possible we see a monster game from him.

The Rest:

Travis Outlaw may or may not explode. He'll be the X factor for this game, if he is on, Portland has a shot. If he is not on, well... it might be ugly.

Rudy Fernandez will be subbed in early and often. Expect to see a 3 guard lineup of Roy, Rudy, Blake for at least ~ 10 minutes. Rudy should do well against the Spurs who will be focused on Locking Down on LMA and Roy.Expect Rudy to drive a few times, attempt to finish an alley-oop, and knock down ~3 3ptrs on about 5 attempts.

I would predict that Bayless gets more minutes this game than Sergio Rodriguez. You'll see Sergio off the bench first, and we'll know within 2 ally-oop attempts, 2 three pointer attempts, and a turnover if he will play a lot or not. So ~5-7 minutes at worst, 18-25 at best.

After the third time Tony Parker blows past Rodriguez and gets sent to the line by Pryzbilla, Nate jerks Rodriguez and sends Bayless in for D.

Tony Parker should have a good night. I expect 18+ points at least.

I think for Portland, this game will come down to Rudy Fernandez and Outlaw. If they can hit open shots and divert enough attention away from Roy and LMA then Portland can squeak this one through.

Most likely probability? Final Score Portland 83, S.A. 87. San Antonio is in control much of the game, 3rd quarter spurt by Portland, and an attempted 4th quarter comeback keep it close, but execution in the final minutes gives the game to the Spurs.
