Nate Costa's Redshirt Status

Discussion time!

Now that we know Nate Costa is out for the season with a torn ACL (again), I was hoping the good citizens of ATQ could provide some insight on the possibility of an extra redshirt year.

As I understand it, Costa was considered active in his true freshman year due to the fact that he saw game time.  I specifically remember the Portland State game and wondering why Bellotti would waste Costa's redshirt year for mop-up duty in a blowout.  Last year, Costa was using his non-medical redshirt year to preserve eligibility when he suffered his first ACL injury.  It seems to me that since Costa has not used a redshirt for specific medical reasons (such as the recent injury) that he would at least have a chance of gaining an extra year of eligibility.  Or am I incorrect, and is extra eligibility granted only in case of personal or family hardships, such as Sammie Stroughter's situation with OSCC last year?

Let the experts of the Duck world speak!  And huck the fuskies.

New praise for Roy from SI.com

So we here in Portland obviously realize the greatness that is Brandon Roy, as the MVP chants last night clearly showed.  Well, looks like someone else is getting in on the act.  In Jack McCallum's Inside the NBA column on SI.com, he has a Christmas Wish List for each team in the league, and here is his Blazers entry:

"Portland Trail Blazers -- Whatever the opposite of a reality check is for Brandon Roy, get him that. He doesn't need to wake up. He needs to keep playing the way he's playing, which, during this improbable Blazers winning streak, is like the best player in the league."

That's right: "Playing like the best player in the league."  I guess that even if NBA.com and SportsCenter don't deem his MJ imitation worthy of Top 10 Play status, at least someone has figured out that Roy belongs with the league's elite.  Anybody have David Thorpe's e-mail?

Does anyone know the guys who run firetomhansen.com?

Hey guys, I checked out firetomhansen.com tonight and it looks really outdated.  For example, Bill Moos is still listed as the Ducks' AD, and I didn't have any idea if the other presidents and ADs listed were current or not.  If anybody knows the guys running the site, could you get a hold of them and see if they could update it?  It would be nice if the firetomhansen.com signs at GameDay this Saturday led to a site that was current.
