OH SNAP: Dave and BE in Oregonian Story on Rudy!

This lavish empirical and anecdotal evidence has been enough to ignite a burst of excitement among Blazers fans, who regularly converse about Fernandez on Internet message boards, including fan site Blazersedge.com.

"Ninety percent of Blazers fans are excited," said Dave Deckard, who operates Blazersedge.com. "They think he's going to be a slasher and a scorer in the backcourt, and they are really high on him. Most (online) comments suggest that people believe he will be a starter, if not immediately, then very soon in the future."

Congrats, Dave!

Dave for Prez
His approval rating is already higher than Bush and Obama combined.

by Philthyanimal on Mar 9, 2008 3:13 AM PST reply actions

Are you kidding?
Obama has an incredible rating.

However, the way you put it, you may be right.

Obama  +80%
Bush   -95%

Hmmmm...maybe I can beat a -15%.

What an "Aw shucks" response...
Come on Dave, it is not that we want to turn you into some kind of egomaniacal megalomaniac, but you are in the eyes of most of us BEers nothing short of  the Greatest Blogmaster of All Time!

Approval Rating: 99% (Nobodys Perfect)

Ridiculous
Of course we want to turn him into an egomaniacal megalomaniac.  Then, I can say that I'm not any worse than the site owner.

I don't think Rudy...
will be a starter very quickly unless he able to accomplish the near impossible, and that means getting a handle on the realities of NBA defense.

I do think he will succeed in the NBA, but to think he can just join our roster and immediately get anywhere near the numbers he is getting in Europe is patently absurd.

I do agree with this part of your comment: "They think he's going to be a slasher and a scorer in the backcourt, and they are really high on him."

I am totally high on Rudy! Fortunately he isn't a controlled substance!

Something like
  1. Sergio
  2. Rudy
  3. Josh
  4. Raef
  5. Joel

or do we want to fit Blake on that unit somewhere?

by pualo on Mar 9, 2008 11:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Actually I agree with you
I think it's unlikely Rudy makes half the impact folks are hoping, at least right away.  But that part of the interview didn't make the paper, just the assessment of the general comment trends.

A good start to the day
Enjoyed the article and the quotes, even though the Oregonian doesn't use enough analogies. Dave, maybe you should sell them a few.

Rudymania worries me a little. Sure hope we aren't setting our expectations too high for this guy.

This isn't worth a diary, but the Blazers and Brandon got a nice little mention on NPR this morning.  It's about 2 minutes into "NBA Experiences a Rebound", found here:

That article was a nice little surprise
Since Dave was in the Oregonian, I can now say I have read his teachings on the toilet. Happy day.

Wow
I can understand not liking the Oregonian, but to call it "the toilet" seems a little extreme.

I laugh at my own stupid jokes
That was one of them.

He said he read "on the toilet".  Everybody knew exactly what he meant -- that's where he was when he read it "in the Oregonian".  I found the golden opportunity to twist into meaning something else which I thought was funny.

Sorry, I'm still laughing at my own stupid joke.  That's just a deficiency some of us have.  If you're polite, you'll probably just look away, but you might roll your eyes while you do so.  I won't be offended.

Ha Ha
Listening to Lars, I've taken to calling it the "fish wrapper".  Sadly, I am old enough to remember the older gentleman bringing us freshly caught fish carrying it across the street wrapped in the Oregonian.  (perhaps sometimes in the Sentinel/Mist or the Chronicle) He was a commercial fisherman, and I could not read yet so I can't be sure.

I am only subscribing for Blazer season. I have a pet peeve too. After starting the story on page one, is there any possible reason the box scores need to be hidden back on page 6 or 7?  Seems to me, the team warrents a page 3 or 4 to go with the front page headline.

Congratulations, Dave!

Absolutly
When I was a boy Spain was a poor country, living mostly of agriculture and governed by a dictator who had been a friend of Hitler and sent soldiers to fight in Russian front (The Blue Division). The decision had been stupid but at least Spanish soldiers fight with courage, so we can have a very bad memory of that government and a kind of proud from our soldiers.

In Portland and Eugene
I had nice homeless people who would come take my cans and bottles.  I don't have anyone like that in Honolulu.

Time and space
Time and space seems sometimes to be made of the same material: people change a lot.
Gutters and flutes can be considered same material too.
Farts and music don´t ........ because music don´t smell.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
