Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Knicks

As we stated in the preview below there will be no Zach Randolph for Blazers vs. Zach Round 2.  There's no Stephon Marbury either.  But the Knicks could still be tough.

What do we need to do in order to win?  Who's the most likely Blazer to punish New York?  And how nice would it be to surpass last year's win total with nearly 1/4 of the season left to play?

Register all of your game-related thoughts here before, during, and after.

--Dave (blazersub@yahoo.com)

P.S.  Don't forget to check out SBN sister site PostingandToasting for the Knick-positive--well, OK, nobody's really Knick-positive, but at least Knick-friendly point of view.

P.P.S.  There's no jersey contest this game because it's back-to-back and on a Saturday which doesn't give people enough warning to enter.  (The Milwaukee scores will be posted as soon as we check out a small possible glitch in one submission.)

No
I watch non-Blazer games on Tivo to get an idea of what is going on with upcoming opponents.  Plus I had some other online stuff to do.

By the way, Daylight Savings Time sucks.  I think it should be "Spring back, Fall back" so we keep getting extra hours.

What if...?
What if we utterly destroy the Knicks SO BAD, that FINALLY FINALLY Dolan decides he has had ENUFF and FINALLY fires Isiaiah Thomass?  That'd be pretty sweet, and our buddy Knick Fan would forever hold a special place in his heart for The Trail Blazers.

Conversativaly, what if we GET blown out so bad that Dolan thinks that Isiah is actually on to something and it just took time for the team to gel and they are only like 2 games out of the playoffs in the East because the East sucks so Dolan decides it's best to keep the status quo and make a push for the playoffs?  That would suck :-(  And it's be our fault :-(  We would forever be held in a dank, dark place in Knick Fan's hate-zone portion of his gloopy gloppy Knick-heart.

I wanna win this game.  Too bad Zee-Boh ain't gonna play, as LMA will TEAR. HIM. UP.

But hey, Jamal Crawford is having a good season for him.  I don't mind him, but he kinda epitomizes the good-scorer-when-on-a-bad-team type of guy.  Oh, and so does Z-Bo.  Oh, and so does Stephon Marbury.  Oh, and so does Eddy Curry.  Oh, and so did Steve Francis.  I'm surprised Isiah didn't trade for Ben Gordon and Corey Maggette to corner the market on good-scorers-bad-team type players.

WHAT ME WOULD DO TO FIXX THE KNIXX:
Waive everyone except Jamal and David Lee, call up 13 of the best 13 best best bestest all star D-LEAGUE players, and promptly make the playoffs with a team of hard working guys eager to get the chance to NBA.  OR, promptly make the lottery but do it with hard working guys who just aren't as talented but you can't hate them because they play hard.  Wouldn't that be better, Knick Fan?  Dolan can afford it.  Geez it is so dumb that he HASN'T done this.

I'll bet dollars to donuts that Nate Robinson acts scrappy and wants to fight someone tonight.  It's "his thing".

LET'S GO BALZERS!

Morty, you need to keep these ideas of yours secreted away. Like in late night posts that dissolve in the day light. What if;

Dolan reads this?

KnickFan gets a whiff of it?

Tommy replies?

Huh, huh? What if IR is gone? Then what do we do? Wait for him to appear on a fictitional crime drama like O.J.?

I think we better win this darn Game and not suffer the consequences.

the best part was seeing how excited
his teammates were for him. Brandon jumped a few feet in the air to give him a chest bump and the whole team had these huge grins. this is really a team.

Did you see him
either pat or rub the top of LMA's head?  Cute.
Brandon also does that in a "good luck charm" sort of way to the top of Blaze's head at the start of each home game, so I thought it was especially charming coming at the end of an exciting win.

by Section323 on Mar 8, 2008 11:14 AM PST up reply actions

The best thing about this team, hands down
is how they root for each other.

Literally Brandon did not care if he took that shot.  Now, sometimes I think he HAS to just take over and do it, but I love how it's not a problem for him if somebody else gets it.  It makes you scratch your head and go, "Wait...this is the NBA right?"

One of the factors
to consider if we do sign a max player in 2010: will he leave his ego in (fill in his present city)? Sure seems safer to grow our own - kind of like organic - we know what went into them. I don't want to lose this.

Why the Knicks are doomed:
Here's a quote from about the 7th bulletpoint of our sister site's blog:

"David Lee had a nice double double, 12 points and 15 rebounds. He really has begun to pick it up a lot more lately."

They don't seem to realize that David Lee is just about the only thing that team has going for them.  You know how LMA and Roy usually get the top 2 bullet points from Dave?  Lee and Crawford should be that way for the Knicks.

There's just not much else to get excited about over there.  "Eddy Curry remains overweight and annoying"  "Stephon Marburry remains annoying".  If I was a Knicks blogger, there would be no bullet points, just lots of swearing, capital letters, and demand for wholesale roster change.

End of the 1st, 36-24 Portland
Portland got the last shot thanks to an NY fast break turnover.

Blake gets a layup but it bounces out!

Good 1st for the Blazers. Heads up plays, good energy, and a little bit of NY struggle helped. But 36 points in the 1st? Woo shots are falling!

EXCELLENT play in Overtime
I would have liked a better end to the 4th quarter but I tip my hat to the guys for an outstanding 5 minutes after two long games.

Good job Blazers!

Had 8 points just in overtime, 27-5-3 for the game.

Portland's defense improved in the overtime, they tightened the screws. It was good to see.

exactly
Roy was great and Aldridge was solid (I loved LA's rebound and jam), but the D in OT was the difference- Web and Przy had blocks and get this... we actually made Nate work a little bit.

Very solid 5 minutes of ball.

With Oden and LMA on the front line
Lee would really be fighting. We'd likely end up with one player who's disgrunted.

I like Lee though. Great scrappy player. Love to get him.

So I leave to go out to eat at the end of the first, flawless so far. I come back home and I say "You know I bet the Blazers blew their lead like old times, only now they are going to win after blowing their lead".

I sit back to watch the rest of the game and it's 103-102 PDX and find out Nate Robinson has dropped 38 on us so far.

Low and behold I see Roy pull out a win.

by Dheepan on Mar 8, 2008 7:37 PM PST reply actions

Oh boy. Another win.
+14 for Blake tonight with no turnovers and 10 assists which is what we need from a point guard.  -3 for Jack and -4 for Travis.  Martel with a +10.  Roy and Aldridge was +4 and +6 respectively.  Pryz had a even 0 but was a big reason why won it there at the end.  You always need a big man in the game for defense and rebounds.

Nate was smart to play Blake instead of Jack again.  Jack and his turnovers drive me crazy.  I don't think  he plays hard enough evidence by his short/slide runs he does all the time.

Its a marathon, not a sprint.

Or has Sargeo canned him? Why don't they just send him to the D league where he can get a chance to play?

I don't understand whats up with the
Sergio situation though.  He should come in to back up Blake.  He is our only other PG.  I don't consider Jack a PG.
