Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Warriors

We have won two games against the Warriors so far and only lost one, but those might have well been played in a different universe.  It's go-time now.  Let's see how our guys fare--wounded or not--against playoff-gunning competition.

Enjoy the game and as always chat about it right here!  (We may not win the game itself but if we don't end up with more comments than Golden State of Mind I feel the sting.)

--Dave (blazersub@yahoo.com)

P.S.  Speaking of, tune in to the awe-inspiring GSOM for all of the Warriors news and views.

P.P.S.  Don't forget to enter your Jersey Contest form for this game here.

They can't stop Joel
We need him to be a monster inside.  That can help keep us in the game -- and if we're in the game, anything can happen.

Oh, by the way....

Really?
As I see it on the screen, you are, in fact, below it, if slightly offset to the right.

The person who is too late ALWAYS claims to be above it all.  We all know better.

This is a No Kidding Zone
It's all about business here at Blazers Edge.  I'll let this slide because you're new.  Just know that I'm watching you and if you step out of line, I'm gonna go all Randy Jackson from Tuesday night on you.

I know our only hope now is it mess other people's hopes of the playoffs, but I really want to see your team do some damage in the playoffs this year.

Tom
You are SO busted for kidding about no kidding.  No kidding is the single most sacred subject on this site...no kidding.  This is the worst taboo-busting faux pas I have EVER seen you commit...right up there with actually TALKING to a Warriors fan.  Don't you know that they all have COOTIES?  And now we've probably got GSOM cooties all over Blazersedge.  It's going to take me months to get this place disinfected.  I'm itching already!

For shame, Tom.  For shame.

Sweet
I have an armpit story for you then.  In 4th grade I was standing near my teachers desk at Sunset Elementary in Vancouver, Washington.  I scratched my armpits and said, "My armpits itch."   My teacher replied, "That's what happens when you don't take a bath."

Growing up poor white trash was tough.  It was nice to have a teacher who supported me an inspired me to become the man I am today.  A bitter, self-absorbed, smart alec.

GSW desperate
GSW at home
Blazers w/o Roy
Blazers possibly w/o Aldridge

Clearly all signs point to a blowout Blazer win.

I like the Warriors
and I think their brand of pick-your-pocket-and-then-chuck-it basketball is as entertaining as all get-out. Plus I think the L*kers would be quivering in their reptilian skins at the thought of a #1-#8 matchup with Golden State, so that's some added incentive for liking them. But as the only role left to us sans our biggest honka playboys is that of spoiler...spoil we shall!  Like milk left next to a space heater we shall spoil! Let GSOMers fear. our. wrath.

by BlazersOrBust on Mar 27, 2008 11:51 AM PDT   0 recs

I too like the Warriors
but yes let's spoil.

This is my first post here and only because GSoM, a great blog, made it seem like they would walk to a Most Posts victory over BlazersEdge. Not to this Dave, not today, not if we can help it.

I'm as excited as many of you are that we our summer league team will feature an ex-Honka Playboy on the roster, and I look forward to Cribs doing a feature on his Honka Playboy Mansion in West Linn someday

by PDXiled in DC on Mar 27, 2008 1:10 PM PDT   0 recs

Line-up question (if LaMardridge can't go):
With LMA, we'll see Trout be the white unit call-up again, this time because of Roy's absence.
But what if LaMardridge can't go, and we need TWO whiteys in the starting line-up? Who's the second?

Fill in the blank:
Blake
MarWeb
Trout
The Unstoppable Joel
[-----------]

Well?
(I'd post this with a POLL, but it really doesn't warrant a diary entry.)

The warriors owe us one
Last year we gave them the last game of the season. They were all happy they made the playoffs and stuff, yippee! Now its their turn to let us win this game, so we can finish with a winning record. Thats how the NBA works right? Thats how I explain losing to seattle twice.

by Sabonis4Ever on Mar 27, 2008 2:25 PM PDT   0 recs

I can't predict anything tonight
None of us can predict what our Beloved Blazers are going to do night to night, and I doubt anybody can do much better with the Warriors.  I have no idea who will win tonight, because both teams can beat anyone on any given night and both teams have PROVEN they can lose to anyone on any given night.

Just like the Wiz, the Dubs got more going for them right now and also need the game a lot more.  But, they can pooh out a turd of a performance at a moments notice and give us the win on a pooh-free platter.  Without Roy and maybe LMA, we definitely got plenty of reasons to excuse the loss.

This is a big TNT nightcap game, sure to be lots of people watching, so I hope our boys put on a good show.  Martell did well on NBAtv last game, did some nice post game interviews with the NBAtv post game crew, and made more of a name for himself.  Doing that on TNT would go 500 times further, so I hope Trout/Jack/Marty and hopefully LMA get the common fan to love them as we love them.

I'd like a win if at all possible.

will win the Denv/Dal game?

Can JHo lead Dallas without the Dirkster?

by jksnake99 on Mar 27, 2008 5:23 PM PDT   0 recs

NOPE
They need to trade Josh Howard, he's a bust.  FORTUNATELY, we Blazers are kind souls who will give Josh Howard a second chance.  We'll give up Frye and Jack plus the rights to Nedvad Sinovinocivinoc and one of our 2nd round picks for Josh Howard-- but they gotta accept it now, or we take the offer off the table.

Dallas won't win with him!  Better blow it up and move Howard westward.

Denver gives up 70, and that's with Dallas only going 10-16 FTs. Karl coaches some hella defense, right?

by billyjoejack on Mar 27, 2008 6:11 PM PDT   0 recs

Define "anything".
As in, the Blazers [gasp!] still making the playoffs anyway?!?

I gotta admit, if the Nougats lose (which they're doing) AND we beat the Worriers,
then that is still an entertainable thought, at least for one more night
(or two, with no Blazers, Nougats, or Worriers action to-morrow).

Similarly, a loss to Pyrite State tonight totally kills that notion for good this season.

by LaMarvelous on Mar 27, 2008 6:58 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Just to put in in perspective:
IF Denver loses and we beat Pyrite State [just thought of that name, love it immediately],
then we'd be 5 games out of a playoff position, with Denver 1/2 game out of that same position,
and the three teams with 11 (Worriers), 10 (Nougats), and 9 (Blazers) games left to play.

We'd have to do some SERIOUS upsettulatin' in April, though. YOU all know the sked.

And if we lose tonight, no matter what happens to Denver, we're 7 games back, with 9 games left.
Insert fork.
