Roy's Injury Worse Than Letting On

We all know that Green and McRoberts were going to go to the 'D' League this week.  But now they are not both going.  Only McRoberts is going.  Below is a quote from the end of the Quick story on Aldridge.  (see prior diary)

Blazers guard Brandon Roy said he expects to play tonight after testing his bruised tailbone in Tuesday's practice. "It's still a little sore, but it wasn't as bad as before," said Roy, who was limited to nine minutes in Saturday's game against Utah because of the injury. "I think I will be able to play." . . . The Blazers will send rookie forward Josh McRoberts to the Idaho Stampede of the Development League this week, but rookie guard Taurean Green will remain with the Blazers and accompany them on their seven-game trip that starts Sunday.

My Thought: There is a reason Green is staying with the team and that is because they expect Roy to miss a couple games due to the injury, and they want to be able to run the three guard sets like they have been doing.  Thus Green will be the emergency guard in case JJ or Blake or even Serg can't play because they won't be able to turn to Roy and there will be more minutes to spread to the guards.

Agree?  Disagree?

You're speculating
Roy MIGHT miss some games, but so far we have no indication that he will.

Obviously, Green has been retained as an emergency backup and for practice purposes.

That's all there is to it.

I think...
Green is mainly there as a body for practice.

Roy may well miss tonight's game since we have a few more days off afterwards and it would make since to ensure he's good to go before the 7 game road trip.  I'd be very surprised if he misses any more than 1 game.

Why play Green and mess up the chemistry when they can just play Darius and do that?

Just a precaution
according to KP, via the Columbian.

"We don't know how much [Roy] will practice, so we want to have another body," said Blazers General Manager Kevin Pritchard.

The decision [not to send Green] is merely a precaution, though, in case Roy's minutes or practice time need to be limited in order for him to fully recover from the injury."

BRoy's Ail-bone
I expect it is as reported, hurting and getting less painful.

Number One Priority; DO NOT fall on it again, Goll Darn, that would hurt, Big Time!

I expect BRoy to play limited minutes tonight. Start and play nine minutes in the first quarter. Retire to the locker room if neccesary to reappear (Les Unseld) in the fourth quarter!

Roy won't practice
My sources say he REFUSES to, and he's sick of talking about practice.  "Practice?!  PRACTICE?!?!?!" Roy says over and over.

Me'thinks our Golden Roy is simply faking a bum-bum injury as a de facto holdout for more money...

Green is staying so we got enough guards in practice if Roy has to sit out the practices to play in the games.  Nuthin' sneaky is going on.  They prolly also ain't entirely sure how long the booty will be sore, but it's okay because Nate said Taurean will won us some games this year and the Utah game has shown we've outgrown Brandon Roy and his antics.

I read this
and I laughed.

Then I thought - what if someone just popped in here (say from GSOM) and read that - would there suddenly be a rumor racing around the blogs that he's faking it???  Obviously no Blazer fan would take that seriously, but someone just checking out what we were saying about tonight's game might really think he doesn't want to practice!

Oh well, it's still funny :-)

When Roy has done this...
Then we know we got a SUPERSTAR on our hands.

For now, Roy is just a starter who does what coaches say.  Can an obedient player lead us to the promised land?!?!

Do you remember when Antonio Harvey did that dumb joke during the summer league where he knew that the internet feed of the games kept his audio on during the commercial breaks, so he started making up outlandish Kobe trade rumors and pretending he didn't realize his mic was on?  That got picked up as "real" also...

So I could see Roy's rep taking a hit from my tomfoolery, but I simply must tomfoolerize and thus I further risk the public perception of Roy.

Aren't you glad that for the foreseeable future, we Blazer fans don't gotta worry about such nonsense?  Pretty much every other team has a headache or two.  Talk bout turning things around 360 degrees!

Yeah
When are they going to bring in some character guys to play for this team?  Enough is enought: I'm tired of these lazy deadbeats!

Roy is a total waste of time.
We should trade him to the Knicks for Marbury and David Lee, buy Marbury out and trade the exception to the Suns for Barbosa and a draft pick, which we will use on Ricky Rubio, a guard from Spain who will be the next Jordan if he doesn't smoke too many cigarettes.

If everything breaks right, we will be the fourth youngest team in the history of the NBA in 2008-9 and go on a 14 game winning streak.
