Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Scoreboard Watching for Dummies

With this miraculous run, our Blazers have vaulted into the thick of playoff contention.  We're still just 34 games into the season, and its very possible that an injury or two or a stretch of poor play will render this moot.  However, one of the fun things about a playoff race is rooting for your competitors to lose.

With that in mind, here's a very simple (and rather obvious) guide to let you figure out who to root for in other games.

  1. Root for all East teams against all non-Blazer west teams.
  2. Root for San Antonion, Phoenix, Dallas (playoff locks) and Minnesota, Seattle, Memphis, LAC and Sac (very unlikely to make playoffs) against all other non-Blazer west teams.
  3. Root especially hard against the Nuggets and Jazz (division rivals).
  4. Root almost as hard against the Warriors and Rockets (teams we have a reasonable shot at beating out- it'll be awfully tough to finish above LAL or NO).
  5. Enjoy the fact that we are legit playoff contenders for the first time in 4 years.

Are you even allowed to say that here?
I thought the word filter edited out L*kers

It depends
In whether or not you are a Harry Potter fan.  Harry Potter fans can say "Lakers" because Lakers=Voldemort and Harry was never afraid to say Voldemort.  If you you do not like Harry Potter then you have to say "L*kers" or "Team-That-Must-Not-Be-Named."

As a relative newcomer..
I guess I am unaware of some the "unofficial" rules of the site.

Actually
I made that up.  I do not know all the actual protocols on this blog.  Dave uses the "*" so we probably all should.  There is also something about "LA" as well.  Both are a curse word here.  It is just difficult for me to type the word "Lakers" with an asterisk, and then I do not know how to pronounce the the asterisk when I say "L*kers."  It ends up sounding like "Lickers."  The subject is probably worth its own diary.

I like that one
As a Harry Potter fan, I like the thought that by saying 'Lakers' I reduce their power and make them mortal.  Not that it takes much, though it seems to take more this year than last.

Thanks for the idea. :)

Ditto TallTimber
I always root against the Lakers- It doesn't matter who they are playing!

True
But there are plenty in Minneapolis.  Just like there is no jazz in SLC, but plenty in New Orleans and few if any clipper ships in L.A. but plenty in San Diego.

I guess soon we'll be talking about how there are no supersonic jets in Oklahoma City.

Next year
We'll root for the L*kers to make it into the playoffs so we can sweep them 4-0.  That's even better than them missing the playoffs (see 1977).

I would always be glad to see the Jazz miss the playoffs.  Always.  Even now that Malone is gone.  Sloan is a very good coach, but I hate him and his teams.  (Not personal hatred, just the kind that wants to see him lose every game.  I hope he has a happy life other than that.)

The team I'm most worried about
are the Rockets. The Jazz just don't seem to have it this year and thanks to us winning the season series we have a +1 game advantage against them. While the Rockets aren't playing any better I think they have the ability to catch fire.

Definitely root againt the Fakers
But the weird thing to at this stage is that there are only 3 games separating the "elite" from the Blazers right now.  3 GAMES!!!!  Almost nobody is a playoff lock right about now.

Go Blazers # 1 seed in the west!!!!!!! (or something)

Lakers, Lakes, Lakers.
The team I still love beating the most.

It's ok to say Lakers.  They aren't gods or demons.  Just a team we will likely beat at least a couple times this year and stomp like cockroaches over the next decade.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
