Unleashed
East coast, meet the Portland TrailBlazers...

This will be the most high-flying game of the season...

Prediction:  Outlaw will block Vince Carter on defense, and in the same sequence, stuff the rock on Jason Kidd at the other side of the floor

by hotstuffdb22 on Jan 14, 2008 11:17 AM PST reply actions

This is the value of taking them one game...
...at a time.

Despite the poor shooting yesterday, they still almost found a way to win.

But since they're looking at it one day at a time, and today is a whole new day, it's time to get back in the saddle, and start another streak.

If there were ever a recipe for a road blowout, this is it.

New Jersey isn't going to know what hit it until maybe Thursday or Friday.

by Majikj0n on Jan 14, 2008 11:23 AM PST reply actions

big game...
...and a very tough one given that we played 2 OTs yesterday.

We certainly don't want to be 0-2 on the trip heading into Boston.

We are just 6 and 7 vs. the East and a woeful 1-4 vs. the East on the road (we're 16-7 vs. the West).  Time to start turning that around.

Minute Distribution
I think the distribution of minutes tonight will play a key role in how we do tonight.  If Coach relies on Brandon to give him 40+ minutes tonight, I think the Hometown 5 will fall a little short.

If Blake is back, I don't think there's much to worry about, but lets assume that he won't play, and that we have the same rotations as yesterday...  If that's the case, we desperately need more from James Jones offensively, and more minutes from Przybilla to get defensive rebounds.

If not, the master will control the tempo, and lead the Nets to victory.

I'm relying on Nate to mix it up a bit, and use our youth to counter the excessive minutes our best players played yesterday.

Keys
We'll still go 5-2 on this trip.......points in the paint are going to be huge tonight if we're going to limit NJ's fast break opportunities. If we come out jacking up jumpers, it's gonna be a long night, especially after the playing double OT, on the front end of the b2b.

Joel needs to get some minutes tonight, forcing Vince to shoot jumpers. If he's aggressive going to the hole, he's a hell of a lot more dangerous than when he starts settling for the outside shot.

by iDea on Jan 14, 2008 2:22 PM PST reply actions

going 5-1
on the rest of this trip...

... is more unlikely than our 13 game winning streak.

At this point, a 3-4 trip would be great and 4-3 would be beyond outstanding.

You're a Negative Nancy
I, being a TRUE Blazer fan, still think we can pull out a 7 and 0 road trip.  YOU'LL SEE!!11

To say what everyone is thinking
If we don't win, this season is done.  Gone.  Nada.  Nuh uh.  That's the end.  Blow it up.

I dunno why, but I've always kinda disliked the Nets.  Even with 3 stars, they always seem BORING to me.  That shouldn't be the case, with Kidd and Carter and Jefferson.  I can watch most anyone on my NBA league pass, and I do when I can, but the Nets make me yawn.  They are mee-dee-oh-kerr.

If we lose, I hope we sit Roy and LMA and just wait for Oden to get back.  If a team can't win on the second night of a back to back after a marathon two overtime game in another country, when CAN they win?!

I'm not saying to take the Nets lightly, cause they can kill you (and did kill us back when we were bad a few weeks ago), but if OUR Blazers show up then the eight Nets fans who show up tonight will be bummed.  MAJORLY bummed.

Look for Magloire to show we were mistaken for taking Oden over re-signing him.  I can't believe the media is overlooking this revenge matchup angle, because it practically writes itself.

Mortimer

by Mortimer on Jan 14, 2008 3:10 PM PST reply actions

Magloire revenge
Perhaps the reason the media has overlooked this is because he's averaging 2 points a game on 11 minutes of playing time.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/teams/stats?team=njn

But since he is looking for revenge he might score 4 points on us this game.

by jayseyfield on Jan 14, 2008 3:16 PM PST up reply actions

I'm assuming that's a typo
And the media meant to say 22 points a game, and 111 minutes a game.  See, you can't trust everything you read and the media has always had a general "Big Cat" biase.

To me, you shut down Magloire, you shut down the Nets.  Some things don't show up in numbers, and his contributions extend past the stats page.

He hosts a Caribbean beauty pageant thing in Toronto, for example.  I didn't see ONE MENTION of that on your precious stat page, did you?!

Served.

49-34 at the half
I am not comfortable though.  Their stars are going to chew the team a new one at the half.  I hope we can withstand the probable rush that's coming.

We TOTALLY out-hustled them in the first half though.  It wasn't even close.  We beat them to every important position on the floor.

by Dave on Jan 14, 2008 5:36 PM PST reply actions

I think...
your game preview was dead on- they can score 70 pts or 100 and neither would be surprising.  This was one of their "70 pt game" halves.  Its certainly possible they could put up 50+ in the 2nd stanza.  If we can score ~90 pts for the game, I like our chances.

GREEN TIME
I like how assured our team is.  In November we would have wilted on our way to 4 straight losses.  Instead we come out and blow out a playoff team.

Gotta run folks
I have open gym tonight. Will listen to the rest in the car on the way. Well, as much as I can anyway. Hopefully will be a blowout still so I can just go play.

Too bad
This game might've called for some McRoberts if he was here

Nate doesn't seem fond
of early substitutions like that.

In other words, it's not easy being Green.

Being on the East Coast
I love these east coast road games, its not even 10:00 yet out here and the game's almost over.

C'mon, Nate put in Green!
The lead has got to be safe at this point...

Wonder if Taurean
will get six shots up in 2 minutes again...and miss them all.

LaFrentz is in too!  Nate better be careful or this will cause some kind of space-time vortex.

Those weren't boos
They were paying tribute:

"Boooooo...ryzbilla!"

It's an easy mistake to make considering how similar they sound.

an aside
the basketball jones guys were talking about how NJ should trade either Kidd or Jefferson, but not Carter, because he deserves to play where no one cares about basketball.

I thought it was funny

To quote myself earlier in the comments...
"If there were ever a recipe for a road blowout, this is it."

I don't wanna say I called it, but...

...well, I can't think of any other way to finish that sentence. ;-)

Great win. Classy response that really shows you can throw that 0-9 road start out the window. This team now is a different team than that one was.

First time?
The radio team said it was a wire-to-wire win which I didn't think of.. has this happened in any game this season? Just curious

by amitp06 on Jan 14, 2008 6:57 PM PST reply actions

Golden State last Wednesday...
...was wire-to-wire.

There have been one or two others, I believe.

stuck in class so I wasn't able to join and watch the game but it sounded like a real whooping.

by damir on Jan 14, 2008 7:31 PM PST reply actions

I was hoping
the blazers would take that loss personally and smash whatever team they played next.  Too bad it wasn't the Celtics they played next.  I don't think ANY team was going to win against us.

Fire Nate!!!!!!!!
The team should have won by more than 26 and why didn't Pryzbilla play 40 minutes?

The Nets look disinterested
It's like, they'll make one run if they happen to have enough energy.  If not, eh, well there's always tomorrow.

I'm glad that's not my team.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside.
