Holiday

Blazersedge is taking a one-day holiday hiatus for some family time.  (Unless something breaks that we all need to know about.)  Happy fourth to all!

In the meantime you can contemplate how much a decent name-level free agent goes for nowadays with Rashard Lewis reportedly agreeing to $15 million a year and Chauncey Billups $12 million.  Anyone think the mid-level exception would buy anybody you know?  (Not that we'd want to use it anyway.)  I must say that I wouldn't have minded Lewis in Portland but $15 million a year?  No thanks.  That's just sick.  Are either of those guys worth it?

If all that gets tiring you can debate the fate of one Darko Milicic, whom Orlando had to waive to make room for Lewis' enormous financial appetite.  Where is his next stop? And will the authors of FreeDarko.com have to change their site name to VeryExpensiveRashard.com?

WOO-HOO! All-day cuss party!
Time for the joke about the hare-lipped midget buying a horse!

(Punchline: "Perwhapth I sthould rephwase that. Can I see how the houwrthe runths?")

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

LOL
That's incredibly funny for some reason!  Nice.

Of course it would be followed by the All Day Banning Party on July 5th, but it's still pretty funny!  (C=

"All Day Banning Party".
THAT line made ME laugh!
Dunno why it caught me by surprise; in retrospect, it really WAS the obvious reply.

Very Steinbrenner-esque concept.

I don't know why
everyone's so damn high on Darko. He had his moments in Orlando but he hasn't proved anything yet. No doubt some dumb team will overpay him.

What frustrates me is when a team has lots of cap space they always spend it all in one year. Did they really have to spend that much money on Lewis? Why couldn't they wait one or two years until some marquee free agents arrive? Too much instant gratification in sports.

It's like the average NBA GM has less basketball knowledge than an average NBA blogger.

Not less knowledge
than your average blogger, just more riding on making it look like their suddenly in contention (see example one Ainge, Danny).  Fans are fickle, hard to stick to your three year plan when you don't know if you'll have a job next year.

On a side note, thats why I love Pritchard.  Trading Randolph for capspace served notice that he will do a move if it will help the franchise even if its unpopular.  All of us(me included) that screamed bloody murder when the trade came down have been pritch-slapped.

It isn't just the fans
I think some owners also want results NOW.  So perhaps KP's (and Nate's) constant reiteration of "patience" is directed to PA as well as the fans.   I think Allen has learned that lesson, but it never hurts to remind him.

by jorga on Jul 4, 2007 6:43 AM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

thats a good point
its an angle that I hadn't really thought of that is probably the most important to a GM.  Being able to rely on your owner to be patient.

Well Put.
Pritch-slapped!  That's a good one.

Some of us just didn't think he'd GET it . . .

An ugly fever
Anybody who would read and contribute to a Blazer blog on this important holiday has a serious illness and needs to seek therapy...NOW!.

Crap.

So much for the safe and SANE 4th.

Enjoy the day.

and
And let's try to remember the reason for the holiday too. Without the courage of the founders of this country we wouldn't be talking Blazers basketball.

God bless America.

Oh phooey
Pish posh applesauce, if the founding fathers didn't do what they did it wouldn't be a big deal because we all know Pritchard woulda done it eventually anyways.

He's gonna be on Mt Rushmore someday.

"With the first pick
of the Constitutional Draft, the Colonial Trail Blazers select:  George Washington."

Thomas Jefferson is sure to go second.

KP: "This was a tough pick, but I feel it was the right one.  It's been proven that philosophical generals can help greatly in to turning a colonial contender into a country."

"So this wasn't a no brainer?"

KP: "Look, we've seen documents of both Washington and Jefferson, and while George's on field leadership is huge, I challenge you look at the first half of the Declaration of Independence, and tell me that George was a no-brainer.  We spent a lot of sleepless over this, and believe me, those are harder when tea isn't readily available."

The Trail Blazers add Washington to a young core of John Adams, and Statesman of the Year Samuel Adams.  They will hopefully be joined in the future by overseas prospects Baron von Stueben of Prussia, Tadeusz Ko?ciuszko of Poland/Lithuania, and Kazimierz Pu?ask, also Polish.

You forgot the part...
...about trading Aaron Burr to the Knicks.  Even though he wasn't charged for killing Alexander Hamilton (according to police, it was a "fair fight"--dueling was legal back then), many fans and the press thought that having Burr on the team was a link to the pre-Revolutionary days.  Plus, his habit of packing pistols on the team wagon was distracting to his teammates.

Cap Space Cleared
I'm particularly excited that we'll have cleared enough cap space so we can purchase Louisiana for $15 million from France to fill out the roster and control the entire midwest division.

darko's already freed
that joke goes back to when he was in Detroit, but now it means "experimental and ephemeral writing about the NBA that features funny pictures."

but I'm sure you already knew that.

Andray Blatche
Is who i would go for. The wizards ahould accept a full mid offer but hey might as well try and get him and see if they want to match it. they already have to pay navaro as well now.

Never understood the Lews love
Almost 30 years old (28), one-dimensional, displays a distinct lack of passion.  If he's so great, why doesn't Seattle really seem to care he's going?

I don't get why Portland wanted Lewis, let alone Orlando.  I guess Orlando just figured the East is so crappy that one halfway decent player can put them over the top.

yeah
I guess Orlando just figured the East is so crappy that one halfway decent player can put them over the top.

Having watched the Eastern Conference playoffs, they are probably right.  Just a lot of money to pay to find out.
