Oden Vs. Durant Part I Canceled

I was just watching Katu News and they said that Oden has been permitted to miss the last game of the summer league to attend the ESPY's.  Unfortunately that game is against the Sonics, the first among many future Oden/Durant matchups, not that they play the same position.   But I'm sure we were all looking forward to this game.

Some of the summer league games will be televised on NBA TV, for those of you that have it.  Also they will all be webcast on NBA.com

Here are the list of games that are scheduled to be televised:

Friday July 6th @ 7pm- Boston Vs. Portland
Sunday July 8th @ 1pm- Dallas Vs. Portland
Sunday July 15th @ 7pm- Sonics Vs. Portland

that sucks for you
Maybe we can call this game, "getting to know Joel Freeland night" as he will likely get a lot of Oden's minutes.

It's all good
I'll see Oden 3 other times..

But I really wanted to see him crush Durant.

not ready for a showdown...
Maybe he's skippin gout since he's afraid Durant will embarass him, since he's not in shape. (see Pritchard's comments after Oden's first practice)

Uh, they play different positions

If either gets the other one-on-one, chances are they'll score.  But it's 5-on-5 they will be playing and Portland will be fielding a much stronger summer league team than Seattle will.

Nah.  The real test comes in the regular season when the games mean something real.

He said
that Oden had a sinus infection.  You really wanna hate on Oden don't you.  It's like you're on some serious mission here.

Remember he is a Blazer, it's a fact now.   You'll be loving him when we start hanging up all those Championship Banners while OkCity has nothin', except maybe a few Round one's and out.

But...?
But how are we supposed to know who is the better player?!?!?!  This was the game that would settle once and for all who the correct #1 pick was.

Now the debate remains academic, an answer lost to the ghosts of wind and sorrow.

Maybe the NBA should make Blazers vs Sonics one of the Christmas Day games-- better than a boring retread of Kobe vs Shaq.  The entire nation is really interested in both rookies; by Christmas they'll both have been in a million commercials, led their teams for better or worse, and it'd be the perfect time to beef up their "rivalry".

If they can get great ratings for the draft, they can own Christmas Day, I say!

Although the draft WAS Christmas for me.  I wish the draft was EVERY DAY.

Oden caring more about
entertainment/celebrity than  basketball.

 get used to it....:-)

Oden probably wasn't going
to play in this game anyway...as it the final game of summer league, I believe.  LaMarcus and Sergio probably won't play either...and even if they do, it will be limited minutes.  The Blazers rarely play their regulars during the last games of summer league.

by JasonT on Jul 3, 2007 7:33 AM PDT up reply actions

They rarely play the best players...
the last one or two games of summer league.  In years past, the Blazers use the last games to get a look at guys on the bubble of making the team.  Always try to get tickets to the first games of summer league if you want to see the prime-time players.

Oden's got Team USA sessions July 20-22.
In Vegas, just like summer league.

I don't know that the ESPYs are a legit reason for leaving town in between . . .

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.
