Gameday Open Thread: Blazers vs. Mavericks

Well, it's hard to have any expectations whatsoever going into this game.  Randolph, Aldridge, and Roy all out...could it get any worse?  Our only hope is that Dallas will completely and utterly mail it in and only beat us by 10 or so.

Anyway you can discuss the massacre game right here.  I'll probably be here to keep the few faithful stalwarts company.

Prediction....
Luke goes off for 40 points, Travis gets 10 assists, Magloire zero turnovers, and we win going away!!!  And then I sober up...

Actually I think we "shock the world" if we lose by 10 points or less.  The Florida Gators would give us a run for our money with this line up.

i don't like mark cuban
i don't like the way he looks, i don't like reaction shots of him when the refs call a foul on dallas, i don't like him in those 9 year old boy t-shirts, nothing.

i've rooted against dallas no matter who they've played gainst for years. the uniforms they wear on the road, the black and blue of the last few  years, are one of the ugliest in the league.

i liked them years ago when they had derek harper and mark aguirre and almost beat the lakers now and then.

dirk is good, i acknowledge that, but i don't like the way he looks with a short haircut and i don't care much for jason terry or erick dampier. and avery johnson's voice gets on my nerves.

i hope they get beat by the rockets, the suns or the spurs when playoff time time comes.

tonight will just be a "learning experience" for the blazers and i just hope no one on our team gets hurt. i'm starting to feel some affection for jamaal these days.  i hope sergio returns to form.

Since Dallas lost last night to Denver (75-71, yes, they only scored 71pts), you can bet your ass that they will come out blazing tonight. I wouldn't put it past Dallas and Avery to blow Portland out tonight by 40.

well
nothing for it but to be a professional.  The show must go on and all that.  They don't stop games just because your best players are down.  With the circumstances as they are (so many injuries, Dallas having an embarrassing loss last night), I'd be happy if we can keep it inside of 20 points.

Yeah
This will be tough.  And with League Pass I have the MISfortune of getting the Mavericks feed.  10 to 1 they don't know jack squat about the Blazers and keep talking about what a rotten team they are.  Hey...sit Dirk, Howard, and Terry and play us and then we'll talk.

Anyway, we'll be here trying to keep a positive face on things.  Hopefully the Blazers will give us reason to.

What do you think, over or under an 18 point loss tonight?

by Dave on Apr 7, 2007 6:08 PM PDT reply actions

Here we go
Sergio gets the start.

Portland breaks up an alley-oop and then Sergio recovers a rebound.  Good deal for him.

Magloire flat hook and Sergio offensive rebound!

To LeFrentz deep for two!  A LEAD!  A LEAD!

by Dave on Apr 7, 2007 6:12 PM PDT reply actions

Maves score.  2-2

Magloire a great spin to free himself right at the hoop and then he shot it CLEAR OVER the hoop!  WOW!

George fouled at the other end and free throws

Hrmm
Two deep post posessions for Mags, and the play did not last beyond 4 seconds. Sure, he blew both shots, but that was the quickest we've seen Mags play all year.

by damir on Apr 7, 2007 6:14 PM PDT reply actions

That move that Mags made was beautiful
the shot was Maglorible.

George 1 of 2.  5-all.  Can we end the game now?

by Dave on Apr 7, 2007 6:15 PM PDT reply actions

Magloire jumper over Dampier
miss.  Not his shot.  Long rebound and Terry breaks...two.

Raef misses three...long rebound to George.  Sergio fouls to prevent another break.

7-5 them

Now a Terry STEAL for another unopposed layup.

Mavs announcers

Yea
Earlier in the year he was taking open, unopposed shots. Now he does a one dribble while being guarded shot.

by damir on Apr 7, 2007 6:28 PM PDT up reply actions

If he's going to go off the dribble
which I'm also fine with, he needs to get inside, not dribble to a contested 20-footer.  With that leaping ability an 8-footer should be like a layup to him.

Sergio drives and dishes to Travis

Guess what?  Covered and short.

Now a Dallas break off a long shot.  Foul.

I don't know...
The last few games, especially last night, aren't particularly indicative of how good they are.  They're kinda banged up, Dirk has sprained ankles and food sickness, and last night was prolly just a fluke.

Not that I'm a Mavs fan, but I see them going to at least the Western finals.  They got so many weapons and even though they are banged up they are relatively healthy.

Thanks everyone
especially to DuckBlazer for the heroic late game commentary.  It was a tough game but that was expected.  Hopefully the Clutch-o-Matic will be back against San Antonio on Monday and we can have more fun.

Well, if not for that truly suckful 2nd quarter
it would have been prettier.  But, hey, wasn't the pre-game wish to keep it under 20?

well
gotta be happy that we competed.  Could've been a LOT worse.

Seattle outscored Utah
39-16 in the 4th to steal a 106-103 win, putting them at 1/2 game behind the Blazers.

How Utah managed to blow that to the Allen-less Sonics is a mystery.

Is that 3 in a row for Utah?
Three losses, I mean?  They're slippin'!

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
