Gameday Open Thread: Sonics at Blazers

Will this be a hard-fought contest between bitter division rivals or the game that nobody wanted?  Either way, talk about the ins and outs, ups and downs right here.

I predicted one more win on the season.  Is this the night?

this reminds me of my high school days...
Playing basketball in 1a, at the last game of the season, both teams wanted the win to fulfill their seasons (both are in the bottom part of the division, eliminated from the playoffs).  We fought hard, they fought hard, turned out to be very physical, and I had a bloody nose, but continued to play. We won the game, with a 10 pt lead. I would the say the same for the blazers. Go Blazers!

94-84, blazers win.

Give me Blazers, or give me Death!

No Roy
Quick reports no Roy for tonight.

by damir on Apr 14, 2007 7:00 PM PDT reply actions

Also
McMillan said Roy may not play again in the team's final three games this season.

I don't think anyone can disagree with that.

That wouldn't surprise me
And in fact might delight me.  But there goes the chance of that win, maybe.

I am
I am guessing Martell gets a start at the 2G spot. If you see him go off tonight for a big game, don't be surprised.

by damir on Apr 14, 2007 7:04 PM PDT reply actions

It's good to be here
It might be a sad, sorry game again (though I suspect not) but it's still good to see the Blazers.

And as predicted, though I'll probably be happier once the buzz has worn off if we lose (I don't need a win to justify any of my feelings towards the team or the season) right now I just want to go out, kick some butt, and WIN.

Sad, isn't it?

by Dave on Apr 14, 2007 7:06 PM PDT reply actions

nope...
Freddy jones is startin tonight.

Ah yes

I swear in the off-season I'm going to get photos of every NBA coach and say what they'd be doing if they were not coaching, based on their appearance.

Freddie
Jack, Martell, and the centers.  What a starting lineup.  Who would have predicted that at the beginning of the season?

The Seattle commentators
started out the game listing all the players we're missing.

Between the two teams you could build a playoff team with all the players who are out.

Ridnour, Roy, Allen, Aldridge, Randolph, Przybilla, Udoka...pretty strong lineup.

Can't wait for people to say:

"See! Running game! Look how great Portland played tonight! TRADE ZACH NOW!!!"

Ya, you can run against Seattle because they're not playing any defense!

by damir on Apr 14, 2007 7:33 PM PDT reply actions

Oh
and if you're talking asterisk department, also remember:

  1.  Martell is being used as a primary option tonight which is why he's scoring huge.  It doesn't mean he's gotten better.  He did the same thing at the end of last season.

  2.  Same thing for Outlaw.  He's being allowed to shoot every time he gets the ball because there's nobody better available.  That doesn't mean he's better either.

  3.  We're playing a similarly bad, similarly hurt team who similarly won't laugh or cry too much if they win or lose.

In other words, if you're drawing conclusions from this game you're probably being silly.

by Dave on Apr 14, 2007 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

My hope for the second half?
well, I want the Caucasion Connection (Danger Dan Dickau and MC Raef Lafrentz, if you don't know you better ax somebody!) and the Gingerbread Man (Schenscher What!) to be on the floor together.

could you just simply not calculate my scores for the jersey contest. i'm almost 100% sure i'm out, since i sent in my prediction from extremely early and chose Roy for the bonus question. Thanks. Being in the final 4 was neat, kinda wish that jeremy actually did forget to email you. haha

by ssa400 on Apr 14, 2007 8:12 PM PDT reply actions

Well technically speaking
You can't be out just for that.  At least one other person will also be wrong, if not two or three.  The picks were Roy-Jack-Jack-Jones.  At most two of those will be correct, leaving you one other person tied with 30 as a base (for predicting the winner).  You really want to root for somebody like Sergio or Dickau to have a hot second half passing.

by Dave on Apr 14, 2007 8:17 PM PDT up reply actions

oh true
i can't watch the game, but didn't even realize that sergio's even getting any PT. I didn't think nate was gonna play him anymore for some reason.

GO SPANISH CHOCOLATE!!!!!!

i need just one of those sergio quarters.

hahaha, thanks Dave for giving me this newfound hope.

by ssa400 on Apr 14, 2007 8:20 PM PDT up reply actions

No problem
And Jack only has 4 assists at the half.  If Nate doesn't play him much you may get your wish.

But even if it is Jack you still can't lose on the bonus question alone.  Unless, of course, Jack and Jones tie.  Then you're dead.

by Dave on Apr 14, 2007 8:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Uh oh
Lewis dunk to start the half.

Then a layup and almost an offensive tip in (called basket interferene).  This is not a promising start.

by Dave on Apr 14, 2007 8:19 PM PDT reply actions

DANG
Another inside shot for them...missed.  But another offensive rebound and a foul on us.

And LaFrentz wrestles Lewis out of the sky.  Stop it Raef!  We may want him someday!
