Blazers Win!
-darth vader voice- I have forseen it.  The Blazers will win.  All too easy.

Perhaps you are not as powerful

I'm the smartest guy I know, just ask me.

lets give GSoM a boost
with a win tonight...and then take it away by beating them in the last game of the season.
Shan was eloquent/Kris was intelligent/ the R was all the above with added elements.

by JPop on Apr 13, 2007 5:51 PM PDT reply actions

Sounds like a plan
I like that much better than the reverse.

by jamon51 on Apr 13, 2007 6:23 PM PDT up reply actions

Here we go folks
This should be an interesting game.  Late news from Quick:

--Roy is not ruled out for tomorrow's game in Seattle.  This was McMillan's response when asked why he's playing tonight and not against Seattle.

--Assistant coach Dean Demopolous is staying with the Blazers and not going to Hawaii.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:34 PM PDT reply actions

Roy is a warrior
but I just can't understand why he is still playing.  He has years and years of games ahead of him, management should just shut him down and let those knees rest for games that will be more meaningful.
Shan was eloquent/Kris was intelligent/ the R was all the above with added elements.

by JPop on Apr 13, 2007 7:39 PM PDT reply actions

LOL
Depending on how you look at it we may be starting three shooting guards and two centers tonight.

The Mikes

Magloire misses
over Dr. Gruesome.  Clips rebound

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:43 PM PDT reply actions

Wow
Maggette splats a jumper like it was nothing.

Oooooh.  Now Martell airballs another jumper.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:44 PM PDT reply actions

Wow
SEE! That's what I meant by "Martell never has plays run for him off of double screens and pick n' rolls."

This time he did and it was beautiful!

And just like that he airballs it.

Horrid matchup.  Not sure who can stop Brand though..

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 7:48 PM PDT reply actions

Brand scores inside
League Pass has the POrtland feed.

And Jack is fouled on the drive.  Steve Martin...I mean Bennet Salvatore...makes the call

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:48 PM PDT reply actions

DEFINATELY
Steve Martin plus 15 lbs.

LA guys now talking about how good a speaker Webster is; the old announcer talking about his intro to the website he just did.  Says he is the best speaker in the LEAGUE.

Now hopefully he can be one of the best scorers.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 7:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Webster's intro
Webster's intro that is, to the Blazers website.  I was kinda vague but I'm sure you got what I meant.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 7:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah
He is pretty charismatic.  Especially for being 19 or 20 or whatever he is.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:52 PM PDT up reply actions

Yeah...
Make me question myself about whether I'm falling for the charisma or what the player can do on the court.

I feel like I'm being objective and that he WILL become a good player... hopefully a great one.  His personality helps during the dark times.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 7:55 PM PDT up reply actions

KA-SPLAT!
Jason Hart hits a jumper.  12-10

And Maggett fouls Martell in the corner.  Martell looks like he got his bell rung.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:49 PM PDT reply actions

Birds are circling Martell's head
He goes to the bench.  Oooh...looks like his eye got poked.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:49 PM PDT reply actions

Roy tries a turn around
but the ball is poked away by Mobley...who now hits THREE at the other end!  15-10

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:50 PM PDT reply actions

Roy with the same spin move
KA-POW!!!!!!  SWEET JUMPER!

Now Hart past Jack down the lane and scores.

And Jack drives on Hart and is fouled.  Will go to the line.

Timeout.  17-12

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:51 PM PDT reply actions

Jack to the line for two
Splat goes the first.

The Mikes are talking about how many Blazer jerseys there are in crowds nowadays.  That's a combination of things Mikes...

  1.  They're $39 bucks or so

  2.  The Blazersedge Jersey Contest!

There's a delay while the officials review a substitution.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:55 PM PDT reply actions

Oh god
We are going to lose.

Bennett Salvatore = instant loss.

by damir on Apr 13, 2007 7:55 PM PDT reply actions

But
he is a WILD and CRAZY guy!

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Now Roy fouls Mobley
coming across the lane.  First whistle on Portland.  That's a change.

Blazers almost tip it away but Clips recover.  Now Brandon tips it away again!  But out of bounds.

Elton Brand down the lane and is fouled by Raef.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:56 PM PDT reply actions

Brand hits both
19-14 them.  Hanging close.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:57 PM PDT reply actions

Jack drives deep again
but just misses!  I love it when he penetrates!

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:57 PM PDT reply actions

Now Jack misses a three.  Cat misses at the other end.

Mikes announce the impending arrivale of The Barista!

JACK DOWN THE LANE AGAIN AND SCORES!  19-16

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 7:59 PM PDT reply actions

by damir on Apr 13, 2007 8:00 PM PDT reply actions

Jack is such a weapon
when he drives.

The Gingerbread Man stops Kaman but the Clips recover and Mobley is fouled.

In comes the Gatling Gun also.

Wouldn't

No
That takes too much time between shots.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:03 PM PDT up reply actions

But come on Dave
"The Great Equalizer" would be a pretty sweet nickname
Go Blazers!

by TimG on Apr 13, 2007 8:09 PM PDT up reply actions

Jack Penetration Nation!
He'll have more kids than Kemp penetrating like 'dat.  He can get to the hoop anytime he wants!

LA Guys report Webster's vision is coming back from the eye poke, will be coming back soon.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 8:00 PM PDT reply actions

Mobley hits 1 of 2
20-16

Roy at the point.

For three...just short.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:01 PM PDT reply actions

I hate it
when the first option to stop the zone is a three.

Now Clips miss and the rebound goes right through Roy's hands.  Maggette scoops it up on the floor and calls timeout.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:01 PM PDT reply actions

Hmmmmmm
Have we got the all-nickname team in now?

The Gingerbread Man
The Gatling Gun
The Clutch-o-Matic
The Barista

Who's the 5th guy in?  Freddie?

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:02 PM PDT reply actions

OH
Maurice Lucas should get a technical for wearing that shirt and tie!

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:04 PM PDT reply actions

Now the refs
are talking about something else AGAIN.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:04 PM PDT reply actions

Same Page
They gotta be on the same page of who they are going to allow to win.  CONSPIRACY.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 8:06 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh wow
they hit Thomas with a nice pass as he split the defense in the lane.  That was a pretty play.  He's fouled.  To the line.

Hits one.  Hits two.

22-16

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:05 PM PDT reply actions

Outlaw drives
tries a bank shot but it hit the glass way above the square.  Blank.

Now Sergio steals and is fouled!

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:06 PM PDT reply actions

Uhm
I'm starting to think, when Outlaw touches the ball, his peripheral vision turns off and he just sees an orange rim and a backboard.

by damir on Apr 13, 2007 8:06 PM PDT reply actions

He's shooting
on at least 80-85% of his touches.  It's like watching Cliff Robinson as a rookie again.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Sergioooo!
Good steal and a foul, misses the FT. He seems like a good FT shooter, but he's shot so few it could be a fluke his good percentage.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 8:07 PM PDT reply actions

Wow
Brand with a SWEEEEEEET turn-around over Gingy.  Have I mentioned I love that guy?  (Brand)

Now the Blazers lose it and Maggette breaks all over Roy who falls down.  26-17

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:07 PM PDT reply actions

Brandon a drive
makes it look SO EASY.  26-19

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:08 PM PDT reply actions

MAN
We steal it, have a three on two, and Sergio misses the layup!!!!

Now Thomas for three on the semi-break the other way...miss.

Blazers will hold for the last shot.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:08 PM PDT reply actions

Jones a corner three
from Roy.  Miss.

I wish Magloire's and Sergio's bunnies would have fallen.  26-19 at the end of one.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:09 PM PDT reply actions

I love the way
our starting guards can penetrate at will.  We really ought to capitalize on that more next year.  They seem to do it against most everyone.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:10 PM PDT reply actions

They cut so well...
Their lateral movement is great, they cut back and forth and change speeds so well... they ain't the quickest like Barbosa, they are crafty like Nash.

And so young still!

Craftiness and being able to cut back n' forth is more important than straight speed.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 8:13 PM PDT up reply actions

I can't decide
whether I like the "Adios, Boring Food!" commercials or not.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:11 PM PDT reply actions

Gingy inside!
Pump fake and miss.  Dr. Gruesome covered it well.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:12 PM PDT reply actions

Maggette over Jones
misses.  Luke traps the rebound for Roy.

Now Outlaw tries to drive but Gingy was in the oven too long.  Turnover.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:12 PM PDT reply actions

We almost steal again
and now Maggette gets bailed out with a foul on Jones.  To the line.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:13 PM PDT reply actions

Martell in now
Sergio almost steals again.

Cassell misses...Kaman tips back to Sam.  He misses again.  We rebound.

Now Martell throws it away to Ross!  Ross scores!

30-21

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:15 PM PDT reply actions

Oye... Vebster no no
Not a good way to get back in the game.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 8:15 PM PDT reply actions

Does Martell
Get an assist on that one?
Go Blazers!

by TimG on Apr 13, 2007 8:15 PM PDT reply actions

LOL
He gets a "Martell Point".  Like a "Tommy Point" in Boston but kind of the opposite.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Sergio fires
a flat-arc jumper.  Miss.  magloire rebounds.  Blocked by Kaman!  Off Martell and out of bounds.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:18 PM PDT reply actions

Looked close to goaltend
I wont get the replay, lemme know if it was a goaltend.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 8:18 PM PDT reply actions

Dr Gruesome
operates in the lane and hits a two.  32-21

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:18 PM PDT reply actions

Magloire tries a spin
and called for a travel?  He was far out on the court and thus more exposed but it didn't look that bad.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:19 PM PDT reply actions

Dr Gruesome
AGAIN!  Magloire is just getting buffetted all over tonight.  34-21

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:19 PM PDT reply actions

Jones to Outlaw
34-23.  He's hitting them!

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:19 PM PDT reply actions

Jones down the lane
and SCORES!  NICE!  34-25

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:20 PM PDT reply actions

Ooooh
Jones almost steals but he fouls.  Non-shooting.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:20 PM PDT reply actions

Hart with a long one
Magloire rebounds but loses it!  Now Kaman loses it!

Now MARTELL FOR THREE!!!!!!!!  34-27

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:21 PM PDT reply actions

Ugh
If that Mags move earlier was a travel, how was that what Kaveman did not a travel, too?

by damir on Apr 13, 2007 8:22 PM PDT reply actions

Ha Kaveman
That's a good one, I'll have to remember that
Go Blazers!

Somebody had the Geico caveman

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Kaman gets a little shove
by Magloire.

They just showed a replay of the Martell three and he had his jaw squared.  Maybe that's more important to him than having his body squared up.

Now MOBLEY for three.  37-27

Outlaw fires and misses.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:22 PM PDT reply actions

Ross hits a jumper
I'm going to go out on a limb and say if you're going to keep Zach you better not re-sign Travis long term.

Sergio hits.  39-29

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:23 PM PDT reply actions

For a guy who can't shoot...
Sergio usually hits a pretty good percentage of his mid-range shots.  Good sign, I'd say.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 8:23 PM PDT reply actions

He releases quick also
The only two things he needs are a good sense of when to take it and when not and the confidence to keep hitting.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Peja
Sergio isn't in my NBA 2k7 for the Xbox 360, so I had to make him, and I gave him the same jump shot as Peja (the form, not quality).  It really looks like how Sergio shoots.

Jump and shoot, all quick-like.  I like it.

42-31

We need a nice little mini-run in the next couple minutes.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:28 PM PDT reply actions

What was that?
Why did Roy just pass it to Mags with 4 seconds left on the shotclock two feet from the 3pt line? SHOOT IT!

by damir on Apr 13, 2007 8:29 PM PDT reply actions

Martell stymied with the ball
UGH!  He ate up most of the clock.  It ends up in Jamaal's hands 20 feet from the bucket.  He loses it.  Roy recovers and heaves but too late.  Shot clock violation.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:29 PM PDT reply actions

So Roy can maybe play a game without being doubled
Go Blazers!

by TimG on Apr 13, 2007 8:30 PM PDT reply actions

Yes LMA.  Hopefully Sergio.  Yes Martell.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:38 PM PDT reply actions

No Jack and Roy cause they played...
Cause they played major minutes, right?  I believe there is something in the player's contracts where if they play XXX amount of minutes they don't have to do summer league.

I'm okay with them not playing, they can swang it new jack style.  Sergio and Webster and LMA should be a fun summer league...

Magloire bricks both
Mobley for a long three

Fastbreaks
Someone who passes on fastbreaks killed Jack's father, that's why he has sworn to never pass it on the break.

Sad but true.

by Mortimer on Apr 13, 2007 8:40 PM PDT reply actions

Slightly incorrect
Jack's father actually was playing a pick-up game and he fired a dazzling pass to a teammate who wasn't watching.  It hit him in the head and killed him on the spot.  Jack's dad said to him, "Son...promise me no matter how much basketball you play you'll never pass on the fast break."

But to be fair, that last one was at the halftime horn.

OT: Knicks out of Playoffs
I guess we knew that before the season began, but now it's official with the loss tonight.  All Isiah-Haters (such as I) can feel vindication.

Hrmm, a bit off topic amusement to chew on:

"A new scientific breakthrough may lead to women in future being able to produce sperm. Scientists in England have turned stem cells from am embryo into sperm, which are capable of producing offspring. The breakthrough is likely to lead to new advances in treating male infertility and even the possibility that women could manufacture sperm."

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Oooh
Quick comes through in the clutch:

Trail Blazers rookie Brandon Roy, who is dealing with a swollen right knee and tendonitis in his left knee, will play tonight against the Los Angeles Clippers, as expected.

However, coach Nate McMillan said there is a possibility Roy will also play Saturday at home against Seattle. Initially, McMillan said Roy would not play in back-to-back games in order to protect him from a long-term knee injury.

by damir on Apr 13, 2007 8:51 PM PDT reply actions

Ok
Didn't mean to quote all of it, but this is too good to pass up:

McMillan was responding to questions of why he would play Roy tonight against the Clippers and rest him against Seattle when, in theory, the Blazers have a better chance to beat Seattle at home.

"We are not playing those types of games,'' McMillan said.

Now offensive foul on Mobley.

Webster has an open shot for two from the baseline and misses.

Would anyone else trade all the supposed "progress" Martell has made in the other areas of the game this year for a return of his shooting stroke?

Blazers miss.  Then we steal the ball from Kaman.  Webster fouled.

by Dave on Apr 13, 2007 9:02 PM PDT reply actions

Next Year
I can only assume once the peripheral stuf becomes second nature (and Marty is too smart to have it last like this), his offense will come back.
