Petteri's a Head Case (for now)

Our Finnish connection passes on the following:

Petteri Koponen suffered a concussion last saturday against Team Componenta.

Koponen tried to dribble through a double team, when he slipped, falled down and landed on his back, while hitting the back of his head to the floor.

Koponen managed to stay in the game and guide Honka Playboys to a 98-95 overtime victory while gathering 32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists (4 turnovers) and a block in 44 minutes before fouling out. The same night Koponen felt nauseated and couldn't eat anything. He temporarily lost hisability to speak, just being able to mumble. Koponen was taken to hospital and doctor told him not to play for a week or two. Koponen will most likely be back December 15th.

Honka Playboys is now missing four of its starters - imagine Phoenix Suns going to battle without Steve Nash, Leandro Barbosa, Amare Stoudemire and Raja Bell...

Hmm...
Nauseau, difficulty speaking, I think I would feel better if a CAT scan was done.

Go home, don't play for a few weeks. Maybe I'm not so impressed with Finnish Medicine.

Damaged goods
Great, by the time Kopponen joins the Blazers he'll be staring vacantly and drooling...

He wasn't just sent home immediately
"Go home, don't play for a few weeks. Maybe I'm not so impressed with Finnish Medicine."

Actually, on Honka's website Koponen says that he was kept in hospital for the night. I'm pretty sure the doctors have taken all the appropriate measures there.

I translated the whole quote. (sorry if my English is broken) It goes like this:
"At first I had pain in my neck but I was able to finish the game. In the evening I became tired and I got onto a couch to rest. I was starting to feel worse and worse and I couldn't even eat. Later my speech became incomprehensible and I was taken to the Töölö hospital by an ambulance. I was there for the night."

"The doctor told me to take it easy for the next two weeks."

Politics?
On Blazer's Edge? First of all, it's pretty ridiculous that the Finnisher finished up that game with the win and the great stat line. Second of all, the Scandinavian countries with socialized medicine consistently rank at the top of the UN's Human Development Index.

  1. Iceland
  2. Norway
  3. Sweden
  4. Finland
  5. United States
I haven't slept for ten days because that would be too long.

Yeah there's a lot of politics on this site
Most of the people who frequent this site are regular left-leaning mainstream Americans. We believe in things like the U.S. Constitution, habeus corpus, small government, individual liberties, privacy, separation of church and state, protecting the environment for future generations, staying out of foreign entanglements, and universal health insurance.
Nature bats last.

Just for the record...
I wasn't meaning to open a political debate over Privatized medicine VS. Socialized Medicine. I honestly would just feel better if they had reported a CAT Scan was done. The crack about "Finnish" medicine was just sarcasm. I sometimes forget that in blogging, written form sarcasm is often lost.

But really, I have nothing against Finnish Medicine, I wish Koponnen the best, and trust that his doctor knows what he is doing.

I had a head wound last year
I was happy go lucky for hours after it, then I puked.  The next morning I could not sit up without the room spinning, spinning fast and not stopping, and my eyes still twitch if I go from standing to prone quickly.  He should have stopped playing.

I wish
I fell backwards off two steps and luckily my head broke my fall.  I ened up with about 12 staples in my head and I got to ride in an ambulance.  I can show you pictures if you want.  I do not know if they are fit for a family website like this one.

When Koponen comes...
Nate should carry a bat. Before he puts him in, he should take a swing at his head.

Seriously, that's like the best stat line he's had!

Seriously
I normally read these comments to learn about basketball, see things I couldn't before.  There's some great insight here.  Please don't start discussing different economic and medical systems.  AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT QUOTE AN UNITED NATIONS REPORT.  Their utterly worthless in the first place.

I work in politics.  This is my escape.

Blessed are the flexible, for they never get bent out of shape.

You must be a first-timer
All topics of discussion are welcome here, but I generally don't think it's a good idea to bring up politics or religion unless it relates somehow to the Blazers or sports.

For the record, I appreciated the UN report post.  Why do you think THEY'RE worthless?

Good Point
I once knew a Jewish transsexual who worked at the UN and wanted to marry a Muslim Republican who voted for Ralph Nader.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
