OK...erase, erase, erase memories of last night.  This game will be better!  Register your pre-game thoughts, in-game comments, and post-game reactions here.

Remember it's once again a 4:00 Pacific start.

--Dave (blazersub@yahoo.com)

Update: Jason Quick is reporting that one of the first effects of last night's game will be Taurean Green replacing Sergio Rodriguez in the second unit. The reasoning, according to Quick, boils down to "he's had multiple chances and only come through once (vs. Detroit)". Of course I'll lay pretty good odds that Taurean will also be up and down, so that position may change again before long.

I still believe in this team
Last night's game was extremely disappointing but this is still a team that convincingly beat Dallas and Detroit.

I think they will come out inspired tonight!  It will be a tougher game- Washington is better than Philly, but the Wizards played last night also.  I think the Blazers can get it done.

You were wrong buddy
The game is over now.

You were wrong. They most definitely did NOT come out inspired tonight.

A urine-poor performance, in the final analysis. Just godawful. I want a refund for my expectations.

What game last night?
What game? I remember having a dream about a game, we were winning and ahead by 25pts, then I went to a buffet where everyone said to eat as much as I liked, but then about half way through I suddenly gained 20lbs and everyone told me I was fat. Strange dream....but I don't remember any game.

Buffet?
Let's hope tonight's buffet has a little more 'goodness' in it!

i wish i went to the buffet too.
damn, this team is younger than i thought.

Lunch Buffets are EVIL
And I am seldom able to turn them down. Especially the ones that have sushi of pizza. All my sweat and toil for naught -POOF!- in an afternoon gastronomic orgy of raw fish and pepperoni.

While puzzled about Joel, I'm actually not horrified by last night's game. I'm actually sort of heartened by the fact that they were in a position to absolutely demolish a team.

Here's my thinking: watching Detroit play the L*kers last night, I was struck by how easily they did things. They just weren't trying that hard and they're in the game. Reminds me of SA.

When WE do things, they always seem really, really hard. Like, the only way we can stay competitive is to expend twice the effort of other teams which, over the long haul, is not a cost-effective solution.

Last night's game said to me we're a dang fine team when we're expending major effort but we're not so good at cruise control yet. (Or demonstrably bad at cruise control.)

This as opposed to prior teams which were awesome (or thought they were awesome) at cruise control but couldn't ever go into high gear.

Ergo, THESE GUYS HAVE HIGH GEAR SORT OF FIGURED OUT!

So no, I don't regard last night's game as a catastrophe. Much easier for me than that earlier road loss in NO.

But Joel... I can't figure out Joel. How can someone so sound and good not be able to get on the court?

by Fizbin on Nov 17, 2007 12:03 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

is it actually happening?
Or are they just throwing it out there as a possibility?  It looks like the latter to me.

by OregonDuckworth on Nov 17, 2007 1:46 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Just a possibility.
I'm wondering if there's a benefit to both teams if the blazers would do the trade and then buy marbury out for cap space later. I can't imagine for a minute letting him on the team.

by bubba on Nov 17, 2007 2:03 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I think Pritchard shot this down yesterday
As I recall reading, there was some laughter involved.  Of course, KP is a master of misdirection, and it's conceivable this thing is actually going to happen.  But we don't have to worry about Steph Infection (as Peter Vecsey calls him) ever suiting up for a Blazer game.  Apparently, the idea would be for Paul Allen to buy out Marbury's humongous contract.  Considering what Allen has already shelled out lately, that doesn't seem likely.

by hurryup09 on Nov 17, 2007 3:10 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Beating traps
Too bad the Blazers won't have much time (if any) to bone up on beating traps before tonight's game.  No doubt the Wizards will test the Blazers early to see if last night's meltdown was a fluke.

If the Blazers can't make opponents pay for trapping, then they'll be getting a steady diet of it.

by hurryup09 on Nov 17, 2007 3:14 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

If I was Paul Allen
I might be angry enough after last night's ridiculous defeat to do something like dump two players (and a third, if you count Marbury) in order to free up roster spots.

...Hello? (peeking my head through the entrance)
I just wanted everyone to know that I am still a Blazers fan. That was a "veteran" team that beat us last night. And we're a "very young and inexperienced" team. In time we'll learn how not to fall apart on the road.

Jamison misses.  Miss-fest to start.

2-0 Blazers.

Blazers miss
Jamison misses a three.  Blake way short on a mid-range jumper.

Haywood inside fouled by Frye on a shot

by Dave on Nov 17, 2007 4:15 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Nice play
Roy drove, kicked out to Web, who drove and kicked to Frye.  Frye missed the shot though.

And Butler hits.  7-2

LMA misses and Frye fouls underneath.

Ouch
long two by Washington, almost a three.  9-2

by Dave on Nov 17, 2007 4:17 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

We have to be quicker on our offense.

Now Wizards dunk.  11-2.  Timeout Nate.  Struggling on defense.

Was there any word on Joel?
Maybe in the pre-game?  Is his stomach-and/or-groin bothering him?  I just heard them mention it a few times in last night's broadcast.

However, you know Frye was completely underwhelming as he started the year. He seems to be getting just a tick better every other game so. Maybe by the mid point of the year...

by bubba on Nov 17, 2007 4:20 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Frye out on the floor facing up is a bad idea if he's not shooting.  He double-dribbled there.

11-7

Nate's timeout apparently addressed some issues.  They haven't scored since.

Good D by Martell...
I am very impressed with him...even though his shot isn't falling, he still contributes in other ways.  This is what happens when you don't hang your head.  Keep it up Martell, and teach Trout a few things about that!

Indeed...
that was a horrible turnover.  Dribbled around his back while trying a spin move...needless to say, it ended up in the Wiz's hands.  He needs to stay solid make solid passes, and Run the offense, not dribble around until someone takes it from you.

I just want to point out
that Travis as an example is good for 2-3 horrible turnovers a game as is Jack. Yet they see major floor time. I just want both Sergio and Green to get real chances and that takes some patience. I think Nate is obsessed with a win tonight and I don't blame him! Go Blazers!!!

I hope Nate
gives him a shot at redemption in the 2nd half. I really believe Green can play but I also believe he gets too excited when he finally sees the floor. He needs time to settle down and a bit of confidence from the coach. We'll see I still think Green will earn 5-8 minutes a game by the end of the season. He was too composed in College to not have that kick in occasionally.

Its true that the Blazers are a young team.  However, all of our role players other than Sergio (or now Green I guess) are in at least their third year.  Its our stars who are young and they have been pretty good this year for the most part.  I'm not willing to use the 'young team' excuse for guys like Jack, Blake, Outlaw and Webster.

I also heard
that Oden is being told to cool off the lifting and not bulk up so fast. So I think they were kind of shocked at how much he gained. That is one thing I DO like is it shows determination by him to get better and alerts the team to help him funnel that into useful things. Oden probably was obsessed with improving and just got carried away not thinking it might harm his knee. He gets that now he will lay off. But it shows grit on his part and it also shows this guy gains mass at will!

and this is Sergio's fault?
So unless Sergio scores 7 points and gives 7 assists in 6 minutes he doesn't deserve to play?
Look at Jack or Blake's numbers after 6 minutes and tell me if they make a difference in the game.
Sergio is in his second yer in the NBA, he is not KOBE!!
But the way is the MVP of the World Championship under 20 years old!!!, well, I guess, he was just lucky!!

by blazersupanddown on Nov 17, 2007 6:25 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Fire this coach now!!
What else need to happen to get rid of this coach!!
Seriously, we are young but that is not an excuse to lose against the sixers the way we lost and against the wizards without Arenas.
But let's not forget this is the same coach that sat Lamarcus last year for 12 games without playing a second until he realized that the guy is going to be an All Stat this year or next year.
This is also the same coach that yesterday after the second unit was 13 - 0 sat Joel and Sergio on the bench and we went 7 - 14 without them.
This is also the same coach that will use Joel for 6 minutes and sit him on the bench regardless of whether he goes scoreless or he is 8 points 8 rebounds.
This is also the same coach that hates Sergio and I hope he trades him so that the guy becomes the new Tony Parker. That way the fans will realize that Nate is never going to be the right coach for this team.
He does have something with Sergio, maybe is because Sergio is already better that he ever was, maybe is because he is international, but how do you sit the guy against Detroit after he scores 7 in a row and gives 2 assists putting the team back in the game and put Blake back who is scoreless after 35 minutes?
Give Sergio the same chances you give Jack and Steve and would realize why Espn ranks him already as the 20th best point guard in the league well ahead of Blake and Jack

I think a lot has to do with the ownership wanting thi team to run but Nate wants this team to play the way he used to play, tough defense and 23 second possesions. Nate, wake up, you retired over 10 years ago!!
Let other people play different that you used to play, there is nothing wrong with it

Play Sergio, Jack, Roy, Lamarcus and Frye with Outlaw, Blake and Pryzbilla coming in the second unit.

Anybody else thinks he same way?

I have to agree
I used to defend Nate from his critics but now I don't know. We got beat by a similar trapping strategy again during a key stretch. The players seemed to have no idea how to deal with it AGAIN after it being the key thing that beats us the night before. One would think that would have been a focal point of the offense. Our defense is worthless without Pryzbilla in there so he HAS to be in the first unit so we get some boards. Having one good unit and one terrible unit was rough. But having two mediocore units is terrible. We need to trade Travis and Frye possibly with Raef and get some beef in there or I suppose we can blunder our way into Derrick Rose territory. Man I'm thinking maybe even Pat Riley can do a better job. He just needs willing talent to coach then he does a decent job. You can bet he would start Sergio and have us running. Sigh, I hate Pat Riley too. *Weep*
Give me the big man in the middle already. Even if it's Joel I want a True big man in the paint at all times. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odin)

Sorry I was unclear there
I meant to say that beating the trap should have been the focal point of the PRACTICE

Have to disagree
"We need to trade Travis and Frye possibly with Raef and get some beef in there"

We already have beef in there, his name is Greg Oden and he's injured this year...  Besides, I'm not sure what exactly we could get with that combo.  Also, one day of practice is not enough to remedy our point guard situation, which is the reason we can't beat the press.  While Jack has ably transformed into a quality 6th man, Blake has shown that he's not a real starting point guard.  The answer this year?  None, really.  It sucks, but we're probably stuck with this weakness until this offseason.

No
This is a young team.  They played tonight like they were still shocked over the loss to the Sixers.  They do not know how to bounce back and perhaps doing so is much harder than we think.  Any confidence this team develops is going to be fleeting and fragile.  That may be so this whole season.

As for the coach, he did not wish for a team full of young players.  It's real easy for us to second-guess his moves just as I recall Blazer fans second-guessing the moves of Rick Adelman when the early 90s teams were going deep into the playoffs.

For those of you who think Sergio is being unfairly treated, please recall that he played two minutes in the final game this past summer for the Spanish team.  That coach was making the choices he thought best to win the game just as Nate does.  Sergio is a very young player with a ton of potential, but that potential hasn't even been realized in the Euroleague with which he is most comfortable and familiar.

We need to be patient.

I hate to disagree
But if my information is correct, Rodriguez was a star in his own country and he was only 18!!
HE is never going to be super star playing 8 minutes a game
Jack wasn't good last year but they gave him a full year of 36 minutes a game to see what he was capable of
Do that with this kiddo and you will see we have an all star on this guy!

I'm not sure
what it is you are disagreeing with.

Everyone playing in the NBA has been a star somewhere.  Obviously Sergio has a ton of potential.  I did not suggest otherwise.  That is why the team payed 3 million for the opportunity to draft him.

If they put Sergio in the game for 36 minutes for a full year that would be called charity and while more of that would make a better world, it wouldn't make a better NBA.  Sergio has to earn his time just like everyone else.

No Road Wins
This is the lonely road
No signs to lead you home
There's no lights to tell you not to go
And nowhere is the only place that it goes
The only place that everybody knows
The Lonely road.

And if we laughed and if we cried we did it all together
It never once crossed my mind it would last forever
One mistake, that's all it takes and then
You turn around, you're on your own again

This is the lonely road
No signs to lead you home
There's no lights to tell you not to go
And nowhere is the only place that it goes
The only place that everybody knows
The Lonely road.
