Around SBN: The 2009-2010 Card Chronicle Big East basketball preview

It Begins

As expected the pre-season coverage is starting to roll out today.

Here's Kerry Eggers from the Trib.

And Jason Quick for the Oregonian.

And of course be sure to keep up with every syllable that comes from Casey Holdahl's magic fingers.

Numbers don't add up
Przybilla says he hopes he is the starting center, but coach Nate McMillan says only that he expects a four-man rotation at center and power forward including Przybilla, LaMarcus Aldridge, Channing Frye and Raef LaFrentz.

Raef LaFrentz is now one of the top 9? Maybe he's actually going to go with a 10-man rotation instead. I'm not complaining--I'd love to see LaFrentz get some burn. But the numbers aren't adding up.

PG: Jack, Blake
SG: Roy, Webster
SF: Outlaw, Jones
PF: Aldridge, Frye
C: Pryz, LaFrentz

I think that's a decent rotation. Just not a 9-man rotation. Maybe Webster is off and Jack will play both 1 and 2. That makes sense.

Sergio back at #3 PG?
From the Eggers piece:
"McMillan feels Roy can play with either Jack or Blake, and that Jack and Blake can pair together in the backcourt, too. Webster likely will get some time at shooting guard. Second-year pro Sergio Rodriguez "will start out as the No. 3 (point) guard, no question," McMillan says."

looks like Nate got a little feedback after his comment to Quick. He goes out of his way to assure the world Green is not #3 right now, going against what he hinted at previously a couple days ago. interesting. If anything, this shows it really is a free-for-all in training camp. Hopefully this will get everyone playing better, and will weed out anyone who isn't willing to fight for it (which is hopefully no one).

Get ready for the ride
Last year the team didn't really know what it had.  This year it does.  As far as wins, I don't think we're there yet.  As far as things that eventually lead to wins (development, chemistry, gaining confidence) this year is key.

Yeah, and...
'Zilla is supposed to be Shaq, too.

(That sounded so much funnier before I actually typed it out.)

Former Blazers in the NY Post
Zach showed up to media day in "ok shape" and was late for voluntary workouts

Dan Dickau was waved from the team, I bet he ends up on the NJ Nets now that Marcus Williams got injured

That article is a list of train wrecks.  Poor Nicks fans.

I looked at the
Knick's blog listed on the right column and they have links to some pictures from media day.  Most of the Zach pictures are in part 3.  Can't tell if he looks out of shape (on my monitor) - he still has those skinny legs that look out of place on his body.

No picture or mention anywhere of Freddy Jones.  Anyone know his status?

Noticed that no one writes diaries there - on their "recent" list was one citing the evaluation of Frye from BE (complimentary to BE, but not to Frye) - from July!  Wonder how many diaries we've posted since July?!  Glad Dave encourages us to do so.

Yah
This is a magic blog for sure.  I bet the diaries since July are in significant three digits.

Oh, and that's not
a pat on the back for me from me either.  I know the guy at Posting and Toasting writes as well as, or better than, I do.  It's all about you guys and the Blazer fan community.

Although I'm sure Knick fans would claim they're too busy enjoying the wonders of New York to post diaries all summer...
