Blazers C Greg Oden To Undergo Arthroscopic Procedure On Left Knee

Photo

The Portland Trail Blazers announced that center Greg Oden will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee on Monday, as expected. The procedure, which will remove debris, marks the fifth knee surgery of Oden's Blazers tenure and will be conducted in Vail, CO.

Oden currently does not have a timetable for return, but is not expected to see the court this season. Officially, he is considered "out indefinitely."

"Having this procedure on the right knee and the possibility of his left knee doesn't increase the likelihood of him playing soon," Blazers Acting GM Chad Buchanan said earlier this month.

Oden underwent the same arthroscopic procedure on his right knee on Feb. 3. Following that surgery, a "minor" blood clot was discovered in Oden's left ankle. The blood clot had to be addressed before Monday's surgery on his left knee could proceed, causing a slight delay in the timeline for Monday's procedure. Original expectations were for the procedure to take place last week.

Oden previously underwent two surgeries on his left knee. The first one came in December 2009, after Oden fractured his patella during a game against the Houston Rockets. The second one came in November 2010, when Oden underwent microfracture surgery after he suffered a non-contact injury during the rehabilitation process.

In addition to the arthroscopic procedure earlier this month, Oden also underwent a microfracture procedure on his right knee in September 2007.

Marc Stein of ESPN.com reported in December 2011 that Oden had agreed to renegotiate his $8.8 million qualifying offer down to $1.5 million after the Blazers announced that Oden had suffered a "setback" in his rehabilitation. He will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Buchanan admitted earlier this month that additional surgeries could be a possibility.

"It's hard to eliminate anything at this point," he said.

Oden, 24, has played in 82 games since being selected as the No. 1 pick in the 2007 NBA Draft and has not appeared in a game since December 2009. Oden has posted career averages of 9.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.

Further updates as they become available throughout the day.

Blazers F LaMarcus Aldridge (Left Ankle Sprain): On Active List, Says He Will Play

Photo

Saturday Night Update: The Blazers announced that LaMarcus Aldridge is on the active list tonight. Joe Freeman of The Oregonian reports Aldridge says he will play.

Saturday Update: The Portland Trail Blazers have announced that forward LaMarcus Aldridge is a game-time decision for Saturday night's game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Thursday's Post-Game Update:

Here is a string of quotes from Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge regarding his sprained left ankle made after Portland's Thursday night loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.

"Definitely going to try to do some stuff [at practice] tomorrow and see how it feels. I feel better. I'm just going to be day-to-day. I'm going to try to go tomorrow and see how I feel

"I don't want to come back too early and re-injure it and then be out longer. The big thing now is to make sure it's strong, it's stable and that I'm ready to come back.

"I'm very surprised at how fast I'm healing. When I did it I was pretty shaken up. I'm definitely happy with the progress I made. I thought I had actually broken something it was so painful. I was so caught off guard.

"I should definitely be back before [the All-Star Game]."

Still Waiting On Blazers C Greg Oden

Photo

Friday Update:

Portland Trail Blazers Acting GM Chad Buchanan said Friday that center Greg Oden is still not clear for surgery on his left knee because of the ankle blood clots.

"Nothing new," he said. "The doctors in Colorado are addressing his blot clot and once that is complete Greg will have the surgery on his left knee."

Friday marks two weeks since Oden's right knee surgery. The Blazers had said repeatedly the plan was for Oden to undergo left knee surgery within 10 days to two weeks.

Tuesday Update:

Here are a few more quotes from Blazers Acting GM Chad Buchanan regarding Oden's left knee procedure. Buchanan said that the decision to go forward with the procedure has not changed even though a firm date has still not yet been set.

"Still kind of up in the air on a date," Buchanan said. "Nothing is set in stone on when they are going to go in and work on his left knee at this point. It's kind of a day-to-day update we get from the doctors there [in Vail] on when they are ready to do it."

Buchanan said that the "minor" blood clots discovered in Oden's left ankle on Feb. 3 remain the deciding factor in determining the date of the procedure, and that there haven't been other setbacks.

"I can't give you an exact date, but it should be here shortly, assuming everything goes as planned."

Monday's Post: The waiting game continues for the latest round of health updates concerning Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden.

On Feb. 3, Oden underwent a successful arthroscopic procedure on his right knee. Blazers Acting GM Chad Buchanan said after the procedure that the team hoped that Oden would undergo a similar procedure on his left knee within two weeks, although some "minor" blood clots in Oden's left ankle had to be addressed before that procedure could take place.

On Feb. 5, Jason Quick of The Oregonian reported that the date for Oden's surgery was tentatively set for Feb. 13.

Feb. 13 has arrived, and Buchanan said via text message that he had "nothing... at this point" to report regarding Oden's left knee but that an Oden health update is "likely" expected "later this week."

This Friday, Feb. 17, would mark two weeks following Oden's right knee procedure.

Oden's left knee has been operated on twice before during his time with the Blazers. First, after Oden fractured his patella during a Dec. 2009 game, and then again after he suffered a non-contact injury during his rehabilitation process that required microfracture surgery in Nov. 2010.

Blazers C Marcus Camby Leaves Mavericks Game With Right Ankle Bruise

Portland Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby suffered an apparent right ankle injury during the second quarter of Saturday night's game against the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center.

With the Mavericks leading 35-25, Camby stepped in to take a charge from Mavericks forward Lamar Odom at the 5:43 mark of the second quarter, and Odom appeared to fall on Camby's ankle while falling to the ground. Immediately after the collision, Camby grabbed at his right ankle in evident pain. He was helped to the sideline by his teammates and departed for the locker room with Blazers trainer Jay Jensen.

Camby left the court with 2 points and 5 rebounds in 10 minutes of play at the time of the injury.

Update: At halftime, the Blazers informed the media that Camby suffered a "right ankle bruise" and that he was "questionable" to return. X-rays were negative.

Update: Camby started the second half. False alarm.

Camby missed three games in January after spraining his left ankle.

Here's video of Camby's apparent right ankle injury.

Updates as soon as they become available.

Update: Blazers C Marcus Camby (Bronchitis) Will Play Wednesday Vs. Rockets

Photo

Update (Wednesday): Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan told reporters that center Marcus Camby will play during Wednesday night's game against the Houston Rockets at the Rose Garden, according to Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com. Bronchitis had kept him out of practice on Tuesday. The Blazers are officially labeling Camby as "probable."

Original Post (Tuesday):

The Portland Trail Blazers announced on Tuesday that center Marcus Camby is "probable" for Wednesday night's game against the Houston Rockets at the Rose Garden because he has bronchitis. He did not practice with the team on Tuesday.

I would point out that the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute reports that elderly people are at a higher risk for the condition, which is an inflammation of the air passages that service the lungs. But, you know, respect these years.

The Rockets, 14-11 on the season, have Samuel Dalembert, Luis Scola and Jordan Hill in the middle.

Camby, 37, is averaging 3.4 points and 10.0 rebounds in 24.5 minutes per game so far this season.

Photo

Update (Saturday): Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum will play in Saturday's game against the Denver Nuggets, according to Joe Freeman of The Oregonian from Saturday morning's shootaround.

Batum sat out the last two games with a bone contusion on his left knee after suffering the injury in the closing minutes of Monday night's loss to the Utah Jazz.

Update (Tuesday): The Portland Trail Blazers announced on Tuesday that Batum's MRI revealed a bone contusion on his left knee. Batum is listed as out for Wednesday's home game against the Charlotte Bobcats and he will be re-evaluated later this week. Batum is currently listed as day-to-day.

Blazers F Gerald Wallace Will Start Despite Sprained Finger

Update: Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan told reporters that forward Gerald Wallace will start on Monday night despite a sprained finger.

The Portland Trail Blazers announced on Monday that forward Gerald Wallace is listed as "probable" for Monday night's game against the Sacramento Kings due to a sprained finger. Wallace did participate in morning shootaround, according to coach Nate McMillan.

The injury caused Wallace to sit out a Saturday night game against the Detroit Pistons, although he told Joe Freeman of The Oregonian after the game that he was available and wanted to play. Chris Haynes of CSNNW.com reports that Wallace was not available for comment after shootaround.

Blazers forward Nicolas Batum started in place of Wallace on Saturday and would do so again if Wallace doesn't play.
