Bill Simmons: Fresh thoughts on Portland from the Mailbag.
Here's a little taste:
...the best way to describe the crowd's support for Oden: It's like watching 15,000 parents rooting for their kid, only all 15,000 parents fathered the same kid.

ESPYS 2007 - Both Greg Oden & Kevin Durant get some eye candy down low while presenting on stage. The one in black is Sharapova.. don't know who the other one is. Both have a nice expression: "damnn... that ain't that bad" .. specially Oden.

Welcome to the Oden Era
"But the thing is that both of these dunks are especially notable because they dunked on ODEN. It means something now. It’s not Samuel Dalembert, it’s not Hasheem Thabeet, it’s not DJ Mbenga. It’s Oden. And with the way he’s been a defensive wall, it means something. Getting him is a challenge. He’s the denier."
such POSITIVE praise from such painful events. love it
And you thought it was bad when WE lost to the Warriors?
Try at home against a team that only played 6 guys. Incredible.

Called On Early
Hi all, I've been away but I am back, and I'm eager to talk Blazers. This is a fanshot to one of my own posts, so again (I'm still pretty new), let me know if that's not cool.
As some might have guessed from the link title, I am thinking about Portland's need for contributions at the forward position (particularly the 4), and the surprising early-season role that is shaping up for Dante Cunningham. Should be an interesting sub-story to follow over the next few months...

Howard Bryant's Take on Retiring Jordan's #
I really liked this article, and thought it did a great job explaining why not only is this a bad idea, but truly why Jackie Robinson's number was retired.
On an interesting side note, growing up I went to the same church as the man who took second in Rookie of the Year voting the year Robinson won it Larry Jansen. He recently passed away .
But yea anyways just wanted to share this article.
