Around SBN: Jerry Sandusky's Wife Tries To Run A Reporter Over

Gameday Open Thread: Suns vs. Blazers

Shaq is back!  And he brought some new friends with him.  How do you think the guys from the Valley of the Sun will fare in the Drizzly Domain?  And how "up" are you for this game?  Is it still the same when the Suns come to town?

Register all of your pre-, in-, and post-game thoughts right here.

--Dave (blazersub@yahoo.com)

P.S.  In case you missed it below, the Jersey Contest form for this game is right here.  I mistakenly left out one question so even though the points count for the March contest nobody can win an instant jersey for a perfect score tonight.  Apologies.

P.P.S. Be sure to check out the always-entertaining SBN sister-site BrightSideoftheSun for the Phoenix perspective.

Beautiful timing on the shaq trade...
I want the suns as confused and out of rythym as possible tonight.  What was Kerr thinking?

They'll sort themselves out some time
Don't let it be tonight.

Our big men should beat Shaq down the floor on many possessions.  If we push the ball up, that may be good for 4-5 easy baskets, which might make the difference.

I'm frequently right, but always certain

Shoots
BrightSideoftheSun had this quote about the Blazers: "They'll be waiting for the Suns with their "A"-game in hand."  From a past diary, someone pointed out that a player can bring his "A-game," and only give 90%.  I am concerned. I think the Blazers need to give at least 97% to win tonight.
"I fart in your general direction! You mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries!"

by tominhawaii on Mar 4, 2008 10:47 AM PST reply actions

We can beat them even if they play well
but we have to fight for the boards, they're rebounding very well laltely.
One problem is that I don't think our defense is good enough to force a lot turnovers out of Nash, he became a turnover machine but we'll probably give him a lot of freedom.

by Bruno on Mar 4, 2008 1:17 PM PST reply actions

Defensive Intensity
I think that JQuick's article might have hit on a nerve.  Hopefully, the players come out with some defensive INTENSITY.  I'd like to see either JJack or Blake foul out tonight.  Lets get physical with Nash and see how he likes it!!

**PS - this game isn't on KGW so we should be able to win.

Go Blazers!

by TKEskippers on Mar 4, 2008 1:19 PM PST reply actions

Like the Warrior game...
This is another game where if we continue our decent play we got a chance to win, but if we play decent and still lose it isn't a bad sign.  Only if we look flat and lame for 48 minutes is a loss bad... even though we're on the road, we got a nice schedule this month and if we win a game against a team of this caliber it can really build some momentum.

Since this game is at home, and we got Roy and Jones, I like our chances.  It won't have the same emotions as when we play the Lakers, but the home crowd sell out should raise our intensity some.  I really think we can pull this game out, but it'll be tough.  We don't have the types to handle Nash well or make him pay on defense, nor the bigs to defeat both Shaq AND Amare.  Maybe one at a time, but both?  We can hope that Shaq fouls out in the first quarter or remembers he is 80 and karmic justice punishes him for being so rude to Sabonis and Sabonis' legacy when Sabas was old and broken.

If Shaq was more respectful to Arvydas, Shaq would still be a good player.  KARMA.

by hotstuffdb22 on Mar 4, 2008 2:26 PM PST reply actions

If playoffs are going to happen
We have to win at least 17 of our last 22 games.  We more than 5 games left that will be tougher than this one.  For the playoffs this is a must win.

by tweener on Mar 4, 2008 3:33 PM PST up reply actions

No not.... really
It quite unlikely we finish the season 17-5.  Even if we do that.. Golden State & Denver would have to play .500 ball or worse for us to catch them.

(Warning: a little bad language, in both senses of the word.)

Check out what happens when literal machine translation and the NBA collide! Choice phrases from the article:

"Steve Francis of the Houston Projectiles"
"Clyde Drexler, nicknamed 'Clyde the Semivowel' and Toronto Birds of prey star Vince Howard carter"
"These players employ their strength to dunk the ball with immense military force. They are the squad's 'big adult males'."
"Some of the NBA's famous power dunkers include Antonio Davis of the Toronto Birds of prey, Chris Webber of the Sacramento Male monarches, Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Rasheed Wallace of the Portland Trail Sport coats."
"Jumping is another word form related with dunking, and the name most commonly referred [...] is that of the former NBA guard Potato Webb."

I propose that we rename Blazer's Edge to Sport Coat's Edge!

The Blazers...
........................ are not only the worst fast-breaking team in the NBA, which is indisputable, but they are also among the worst at getting back on the fast break.

I'm not sure how you fix that. It's not something that comes up that often, but if that's an achilles heel (or and achilles leg-and-hindquarters, as in the Blazers' case), that sorta reduces your odds of playing with the Suns...

Okay, i know the problem
The ball is being denied because the hoop isn't feeling the love.  It needs to splurge a little and give the hoop some ice or something.  Maybe a poem and champaign.  If we all chip in during half time, I bet we could make this happen!

Oh, and it's not the stinking defense.  It's missing easy shots.

Yeah, Chuck called that...

I think there is a lot of truth to the observation that winning teams do it in the paint, with power rebounding, driving the hoop, putting the ball back strong, fast breaking...

28 to 8 is the points in the paint margin for Phoenix tonight, which is almost exactly the game margin...

Team OK just has to say that we'll take the lead with no delay. We have the players to keep the pace and in the end we'll win the race.

UGH
Hilary is like the hyrdra monster you cut down her heads but hey just keep growing back.

I thought for sure Obama could finally corner and finish her. WHY WON'T SHE DIE!

Hillary is a vampire...
....................... that it takes 3 wooden stakes to kill. Obama got 2 pegs in but couldn't get the third one in. Now she's pushing for a redo on Florida (big win for her there if she can muster it) and Michigan (toss up) -- which would pop stake #2 back out if she can pull it off...

I can't believe we came back
I thought we were toast at halftime.  I hate it when fans complain about the calls, but (I'm going to do it anyway) we had some very questionable calls go against us at the end of the game.

Too bad we didn't take care of business with about 3 or 4 minutes to go...the Suns were giving us a chance.

Yup
some calls were just BAD, but we had the chance to pull away and we didn't.  Our fault for not finishing.

I'm surprised more people weren't fighters
and i was surprised as heck at how many rangers.  Makes me wonder if they're looking at 2.0 or 3.5 game play.

For those wondering... mage.  Don't need the power spells, just give me the simple spells and I guarantee I will frustrate the heck out a DM.

This Fight Tonight
Look out the left
captain said
The lights down there
that's where we'll land.
I saw a falling star burn up
Above the Las Vagas sands.
It wasn't the one that you gave to me
That night down South between the trailer;
Not the early one
That you can wish upon;
Not the Northern one
That guides in the sailors.
Oh starbright
starbright
You've got the loving that I like
all right
Turn this crazy bird around
I shouldn't have got on this flight tonight.
You got the touch so gentle and sweet
But you've got that look so critical
I can't talk to you baby
I get so weak.
Sometimes I think love is just mythical
Up there's a heaven
Down there's a town
Blackness everywhere and little lights shine
Blackness
blackness dragging me down
Come on light the candle in this poor heart of mine.
I'm drinking sweet champagne
Got the headphones up high
Can't numb you out
Can't drum you out of my mind
They're playing "Goodbye baby
baby goodbye
Ooh
ooh
love is blind"
Up go the flaps
down go the wheels
I hope you got your heat turned on baby
I hope they finally fixed your automobile
I hope it's better when we meet again.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
