The Charlotte Hornets have a new head coach coming on board in James Borrego, who may bolster his staff with former Trail Blazers assistant coach Jay Triano. As reported by international reporter David Pick and Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer, Triano’s experience may be a valued commodity for a new coach with a veteran roster.

Triano first came to prominence as the head coach of the Toronto Raptors from 2008-2011 after serving six seasons as an assistant there. Following that, he became one of the more prominent members of Terry Stotts’ coaching staff with the Trail Blazers from 2012-2016, an era in which the Blazers progressed farther than pundits predicted behind stars LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard. Triano left Portland for Phoenix in 2016, serving as Associate Head Coach, then Interim Head Coach following the dismissal of Earl Watson three games into the season.
