The Orlando Magic have reached a deal in principle with Frank Vogel, according to Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. If and when the deal goes through, Vogel will become their next head coach.

This directly affects coaching opportunities for Blazers assistants Nate Tibbetts and David Vanterpool, who have interviewed for positions this week. Vogel was a primary candidate to fill the Memphis Grizzlies’ vacancy, so Tibbetts has one less competitor for the job, while Vanterpool interviewed for the job in Orlando, which is now off the table.
Prior to Vogel’s dismissal from the Indiana Pacers, he accrued a record of 250-181 over the course of five and a half seasons as head coach, making the playoffs five times. Under his direction, we saw Lance Stephenson lead the league in triple-doubles (2013-14) and Roy Hibbert make two all-star teams. The Magic may have landed a magician.
