Gerald Henderson. How can he Help the Trail Blazers?

The Trail Blazers are going to look completely different this season. With Damian Lillard being the only starter to return from last years team the roster is basically brand new. The team will have to look for other scoring options now that L.A. Wes Matthews and Nic Batum are gone. Lillard is going to be the obvious first option on offense, but beside him nobody knows who the second option is going to be on this team.

If the team still plans on using C.J. McCollum of the bench, they're going to have to start Gerald Henderson at the two-guard position. Henderson has shown throughout his career that he can be a solid second or third option on offense. He's averaging 12.0 points per game for his career, and scored 15.5 points per game in his best season. If he can score around 15 points per game for the Trailblazers this year it should help take some of the scoring burden off of Damian Lillard. He also brings a unique skill set to the team because he isn't a prototypical two guard that is seen in the NBA now a days. Instead of shooting threes, Henderson likes to create mid-range jump shots for himself or take his man into the post and score from there with his fade-a-way jumper. He isn't a good three-point shooter, he's averaging 31 percent from three-point range for his career and he doesn't attempt a lot of them. But he is a good corner three-point shooter, shooting 48.1% from the left corner last season, and 38.1% from the right corner. On defense he brings a great IQ and understands how to prevent his man from scoring. He isn't a lockdown defender, but he knows how to keep his man in front of him by using his lateral quickness and strength.

Overall Gerald Henderson will end up being a good pickup for the Trail Blazers, even though the teams in a rebuilt, he brings veteran leadership to a team that needs it and he can also help mentor the younger guys on the team. He brings a lot to the team and Trail Blazers fans should be excited to see him play this year.
