Blazersedge has also confirmed the move.

Back in June, multiple reports indicated that Buchanan was interviewing for the position.

Buchanan, 41, joined the Blazers in 2004. He has worked in the team's scouting department, holding multiple roles, and served as Acting GM following the abrupt firing of former GM Rich Cho in 2011.

Cho is now the GM of the Hornets, who parted ways with longtime president Rod Higgins earlier this month.

The Hornets changed their name from the "Bobcats" at the end of the 2013-14 season.

The Blazers parted ways with director of NBA scouting Mike Born last month. Born and Buchanan were both brought to the Blazers by former GM Kevin Pritchard and remained throughout Cho's tenure and two seasons under Blazers GM Neil Olshey, who was hired in 2012.

Portland's front office also includes assistant GMs Bill Branch Steve Rosenberry, who were brought to Portland by Cho.

Here's Buchanan's media guide biography.

Chad Buchanan enters his eighth season as Director of College Scouting and most recently served as the team's Acting General Manager from 2011-12. In his expanded role, Buchanan oversaw the 2011 NBA Draft, player transactions and free agency. Buchanan spent three seasons as a domestic scout for the team.

Buchanan focuses on all college, international and high school scouting. In addition, he manages the continued development of scouting database content, organizes all pre-draft workouts and assists in NBA player evaluation. Buchanan served for two seasons as a graduate assistant for the University of Iowa men's basketball team before becoming an assistant coach for Simpson College from 1997-2002.

In 2002, he was an assistant coach and assistant director of player personnel for the Kansas City Knights (ABA), before returning to the college ranks as an assistant coach at Drake University from 2003-04. The West Des Moines, Iowa native played both baseball and basketball for four years at Simpson College prior to receiving his master's in athletic administration from the University of Iowa.

Born on Sept. 13, 1972, Chad and his wife, Melanie, are the parents of Treyson and Addilane, and reside in Tualatin.
