I'm 6'1" and 175 lbs. People have called me "skinny" throughout my life. Stretch that 175 lbs to 6'6", and "skinny" begins to look more like "emaciated."
I looked up Will Barton's draft profile, and saw that his slight frame was the biggest issue the "experts" had with him. They said he would have trouble comfortably adding weight. They said he can be tossed around like a rag doll, essentially, and that he has issues finishing through contact. They also named "Doug West" as Barton's NBA comparison.
Man, what I wouldn't give for him to live up to that! Tayshaun Prince is another guy who has managed to have a great NBA career in spite of being rail-thin. Still...
The People's Champ can add a little weight, and he can certainly get stronger. The Blazers must have him on a special diet and exercise plan. I'd like to read about the work Will is doing with Dr. Stackpole and his staff, and about the gains he has made in the weight room since the Blazers drafted him.
Will Barton's development could be a critical part of the Blazers success in 2014-2015 and beyond, so I'm hoping that one of our fine staff writers will look into this for us.
