Trading CJ McCollum...

...makes an awful lot of sense.

He's not ready to play the point for the Blazers, and the team has a logjam at shooting guard. Also, it looks like Neil Olshey is ready to use the Non-Bird Exception to re-sign Mo Williams. CJ's NBA ceiling has been described as...Mo Williams. It just doesn't seem like there will be a place for CJ in Stotts' 2014-2015 player rotation.

The good news is that, because of his foot injury and limited minutes, it's like the Blazers never "unwrapped" the 2013 lottery pick. His value has probably dropped a bit; but the Blazers should still be able to get something useful out of him. I also think it would be easier for Olshey to move Victor Claver by packaging him with CJ.

The summer of 2015 will be huge for the Trail Blazer organization. Trading CJ for a veteran on an expiring deal could open up another three million dollars of wiggle room for Neil Olshey. It's not a lot; but it could make the difference in terms of keeping our starters together.
