After watching the team all season I think it's safe to say we are among the best teams in the league. The question is are we good enough to make it to the WCF or the Finals? Should we even be trying to reach such hallowed ground? Is chemistry more important than talent?
My thoughts are that chemistry is indeed important. Look at OKC once Russell Westbroke got himself and his enormous ego out of the way, OKC exploded with an insane run and Durant looks like a lock to win the MVP if the season ended today.
There is no question that we have excellent chemistry and you wouldn't want to disturb our lineup too much. However, I also question whether we could beat OKC in a 7 game series, or even GSW or SAS although the last seems like our best, plausible, yet difficult matchup. I also think we lose to Houston almost for sure due to matchup reasons. The problem of course...is defense.
So my question to you esteemed Be-edgers, while I know it's near blasphemy to discuss a trade given our incredible run, should we make a move to improve our defensive personnel? Also do we need to make a move now or in the next couple of Seasons? Alternately, should we just let this team develop?
I say, yes we should make a move now, but it depends on who we get. The reason we need to make a move is that our biggest competition in the West is OKC and they are young and getting better. There is one player who could turn this team into a championship contender in my opinion and I'm seeing his name mentioned a lot in trade discussions. I also believe that a change of environment and a team with such upstanding and respected players as ours would change this player's attitude. This player's name is Larry Sanders and I don't think his stock has ever been lower in Milwaukie. Adding an elite defensive big to this team could be the piece that puts us over the top. I think a change of scenery would rejuvenate Larry Sanders.
This is merely an example trade that is using more salary filler than being serious. I don't think this would be nearly enough for the Bucks. However, it is an example of the kind of pieces they would want. A veteran who can impact the game in Williams and younger players who need playing time to develop. We could also swap CJ for Williams although of course I'd rather hang on to CJ. For Sanders, I think it would be worth it.
So that trade specifically aside. Would you make a move for Sanders? How would you get it done? Is there anyone else you think might be available that we should make a run at? Cheers, and go Blazers! Lets see Paul Allen hoist two trophies this year!
Please add any ideas you have another name that intrigues is Aaron Afflalo. I'm looking at defense more than offense for obvious reasons although Afflalo brings both.
