Brandon Roy would have made it?

So, here are a few of the comments from Timmay! Sixers Final report:

"Lillard needs to get advice from CJ on how to finish"

"we need to bring Roy as our 'finishing at the rim' coach"

"Lillard can't make a lay-up"

"This is the problem with being a jump shooting team"

"I think LMA should have taken it."

"I still don't understand why we went to Dame. To go to the rim... where he is terrible..."

"If you’re gonna be a clutch guy, gotta make that makeable layup to send the game into overtime."

"Brandon Roy would have made it."

And on and on; similar comments were also in the other 76ers game threads.

"Brandon Roy would have made it."

Brandon Roy would have made it?

Yes, he produced many memorable finishes. Yes, it felt like he was invincible in the 4th quarter.

The '1-4 clearout BRoy iso' won how many games? I believe a billion.

So, I understand the desire to praise BRoy. What I have a hard time with, are the people talking smack about Lillard. "He's gotta make that makeable layup" "He's not clutch." "He can't finish" "He is terrible at the rim." "He doesn't have heart."

You would think with the way Lillard has performed thus far in his career, that everyone would be happy with his clutch-ness, his heart, with his finishing, etc.

Yes, Lillard was asked to tie the game, and failed. It happens.

Sometimes it feels like BEers are either forgetting our past, don't know our past, or wilfully changing the past. Brandon Roy was by no means perfect at the end of games. I wonder how many times BRoy was asked to win/tie the game, and failed?

These aren't really the stats I wanted to be looking at, but I do want to defend Lillard. You can't expect him to make every shot at the end of games. You can't expect the Blazers to win every game. We're going to lose some of these close games. It's not the end of the world.

You don't need to make trades, change our offensive philosophy, change substitution patterns, etc. because the Blazers missed a potential game-tying/game-winning shot at the buzzer.

You don't need to make trades, change our offensive philosophy, change substitution patterns, etc. because the team had one bad shooting night.

And with that, a list of games where BRoy was asked to win/tie the game, and failed.
