I can still remember the first time I got a free Chalupa. It was the 2000 season and the Blazers were playing the Utah Jazz on a Sunday afternoon. I had no idea what delicious treat awaited me after the game. If memory serves it was a close game throughout and Greg Anthony hit a jumper that put the Blazers over the century mark. To my elation not only were we winning the game, but the Blazers were also helping to pay for my dinner.
I can still remember all those times in the early 2000's where my friends and I would ride the Max back to Gateway TC on the east side where we would often park and ride the train in to avoid traffic. Our mouths would salivate at the thought of this crispy fried pseudo Mexican cuisine.
Later in the decade this, during the height (or depths, whichever way you look at it) of the JailBlazer era this tasty and satisfying treat was all us Blazer fans had to cheer for one some nights. So let's raise a glass of Mountain Dew Baja Blast and remember upon a fonder time, before the Blazer sold the naming rights to the Rose Garden and before most of us became adults and can no longer eat 4 Chalupas a week with not adverse affects. Here's to you 100 point Chalupa, you will live on in our hearts forever.
